Stoplight Switch

NOTE: Stoplight switch is commonly referred to as brakelight switch.

Turn ignition off. Disconnect 4-pin electrical harness connector from stoplight switch. Stoplight switch is located near top of brake pedal. Using a DVOM, measure continuity between specified terminals with stoplight switch depressed and released. See Fig 1. See STOPLIGHT SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST  table. If continuity is not as specified, replace and adjust stoplight switch. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH article in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - V6 & V8.

STOPLIGHT SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST

Stoplight Switch Pin Position (1) DVOM Leads Connected Between Terminals Specification
Free 1 & 2 Continuity
Pushed In 1 & 2 No Continuity
Free 3 & 4 No Continuity
Pushed In 3 & 4 Continuity
