WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Wireless door lock control system can perform limited diagnostics to help narrow the cause of a malfunction. To begin diagnostic mode, insert key into ignition switch. Remove and insert key into ignition switch. Within 5 seconds of removing and inserting key into ignition switch, turn ignition switch to ON position. Within 30 seconds of turning ignition switch to ON position, cycle ignition OFF/ON 9 more times, ending with ignition switch in ON position. Wireless door lock control system buzzer should sound to signify that diagnostic mode has been entered.
  2. Depress buttons on remote transmitter one at a time and note sound output from wireless door lock control system buzzer. If buzzer chirps as specified in STEPS 1-3 of Fig 1, remote transmitters, door control receiver and buzzer are okay at this time. If buzzer chirps as specified in STEP 4 of Fig 1, confirm remote transmitter is registered. See PROGRAMMING . If buzzer does respond or does not chirp as specified, go to next step.
  3. If buzzer does not chirp, check wireless door lock control system buzzer. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM BUZZER  under COMPONENT TESTS. If buzzer is okay, check remote transmitter. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under COMPONENT TESTS. If remote transmitter is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check multiplex control system for DTCs and proper operation. See MULTIPLEX CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If multiplex control system is operating properly and no DTCs exist, check body control system. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEM under TROUBLE SHOOTING in BODY CONTROL SYSTEMS - AVALON article under COMMUNICATION DEVICES in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If body control system is operating properly, check wireless door lock control receiver. See WIRELESS DOOR LOCK CONTROL RECEIVER  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  5. To exit diagnostic mode, turn ignition switch OFF/ON after checking transmitter button functions. Wireless door lock control system buzzer should sound to signify that diagnostic mode has been terminated.
