Description & Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Toyota Avalon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Vehicle is equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting ANY repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in TOYOTA - AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.
NOTE: For information on heated mirrors, see REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER & HEATED MIRRORS - AVALON article.

Power mirrors are controlled by a dual control switch assembly that is incorporated into heating and ventilation register on left side of instrument panel. The select switch directs current to desired mirror (left or right). The operation switch directs current to one of 2 motors located within mirror assembly. Mirror glass can be replaced separately from motor assembly.

Models with driving position memory incorporate a memory position for the power mirrors. Models with driving position memory communicate through the power seat electronic control unit, driver door ECU, front passenger door ECU and body control ECU to ensure mirror position settings are properly recalled for each memorized driving position.
