Using TOYOTA Hand-Held Tester

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota Prius, 2002 Toyota Prius, and 2001 Toyota Prius. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To check DTC, hook up TOYOTA hand-held tester to DLC3. Start the engine and check that the ABS warning light blinks. If it DOES NOT blink, inspect ABS warning light circuit and Ts terminal circuit. See ABS WARNING LIGHT  or Ts TERMINAL  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Keep vehicle in stationary condition and the brake pedal in free condition for 1 second or longer. Keeping the vehicle in stationary condition, depress the brake pedal with 22 Ft. Lbs. (98 N.m) or more for 1 second or longer. Drive vehicle straight forward, faster than 28 mph for several seconds, check that the ABS warning light goes off and stop the vehicle.
  3. Read the DTC by following prompts on tester screen. Please refer to TOYOTA hand-held tester operator's manual.
