Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

COMPONENTS: See COMPONENTS
- TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT NOTE: The bolts, screws and nuts, which are necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel are shown in the illustration below and the text with alphabets.
- DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE
- Remove the instrument panel finish plate.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER
- Remove the 2 bolts < B >.
- Disconnect the hood lock control cable assy and fuel lid lock control cable sub-assy.
- Disengage the 4 clips.
- Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument panel finish panel sub-assy lower.

- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY
- Disengage the 5 clips and 2 claws, and remove the console upper rear panel, and then disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER
- Disengage the 6 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the console panel sub-assy upper.
NOTE: Be careful not to snap the claws during the operation. - REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO.1
- Disengage the clip.
- Pull the console upper panel garnish No.1 rearward to be removed.
- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO.2
- REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY
- Remove the screw.
- Disengage the 4 clips and remove the air conditioner, and then disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER
- Remove the 3 bolts < C >.
- Disengage the 8 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center.
- REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSY W/BRACKET (See RADIO RECEIVER ASSY )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3
- REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See OVERHAUL
)
SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPR (See OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSY W/SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See OVERHAUL )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER LH
- Remove the 2 bolts < B >.
- Disengage the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel lower LH.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY
- Disengage the 7 clips.
- Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY
- Remove the 3 screws < G >.
- Loosen the 2 bolts and remove the combination meter assy.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR
- Remove the 6 bolts < B > and console box assy rear.
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH
- Remove the clip.
- Disengage the 2 claws and remove the cowl side trim board RH.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO.2
- Remove the screw < E >.
- Disengage the 3 clips and remove the instrument panel under cover sub-assy No.2.
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSY
- Remove the screw < F > and glove compartment door.
- Deform the upper part of the glove compartment door to release the stoppers.
- Pull the glove compartment door upward to remove it.
- DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER NO.2
- Remove the 4 screws < E >.
- Disengage the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel finish panel.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO.2
- Remove the screw < G >.
- Disengage the 2 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the instrument panel register assy No.2.
- REMOVE ASSIST GRIP SUB-ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
- Remove the 8 bolts < A > < B > < C > and nut < H >.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY NO.1 (W PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM)
- Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel speaker panel sub-assy No.1.
- REMOVE STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSY FRONT (W PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM)
- Remove the 2 screws < D > and the stereo component speaker assy front.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PIN NO.1
- Remove the screw < D > and the instrument panel pin No.1.
- REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY
- Remove the 5 screws < D > and the defroster nozzle assy.
- REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.2
- Remove the 2 screws < D > and the heater to register duct No.2.
- REMOVE METER HOOD RETAINER NO.1
- Remove the screw < D > and the meter hood retainer No.1.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACKET SUB-ASSY CENTER
- Remove the screw < D > and the instrument panel bracket sub-assy center.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (W/ LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM)
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the automatic light control sensor.
- REMOVE COOLER (SOLAR SENSOR) THERMISTOR
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the cooler (solar sensor) thermistor.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO.2
- REMOVE ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSY (See ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSY )
- REMOVE NAVIGATION ANTENNA ASSY (W/ NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (See NAVIGATION ANTENNA ASSY )
- REMOVE INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
- INSTALL INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE )
- INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
- Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < A >.
Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
- INSTALL COMBINATION METER ASSY
- Pull the positions shown in the illustration in the arrow mark direction to make the check pins unseen form the surface.
- Check that the connector on the instrument panel side is in place.
- Install the combination meter assy with the 3 screws.
- Tighten the screw shown in the illustration and check that the check pin protrudes.
- ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See SPIRAL CABLE )
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See OVERHAUL )
- INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (See STEERING WHEEL )
- INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY
- INCLINATION SENSOR ZERO DEGREE CORRECTION (See COMBINATION METER ASSY )
- INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (See AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CHECK )
