Section 573 (Cooling System): Thermostat: Replacement

- DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )
- REMOVE RADIATOR LOWER AIR DEFLECTOR (See STARTER )
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET ASSY (See STARTER )
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSY (See STARTER )
- REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE
- Remove the bolt and water inlet pipe.
- Remove the O-ring from the water inlet pipe.
- REMOVE WATER INLET
- Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
- Remove the 3 nuts and water inlet.
- REMOVE THERMOSTAT
- Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
- Align the thermostat jiggle valve with the upper stud bolt, then insert the thermostat in the water inlet housing.
HINT:
The jiggle valve may be set within 15° of either side of the prescribed position.
- INSTALL WATER INLET
Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf)
- INSTALL WATER INLET PIPE
- Install a new O-ring to the water inlet pipe.
- Apply soapy water to the O-ring.
- Connect the water inlet pipe to the water inlet.
- Install the bolt which is used to fixes the water inlet pipe to the cylinder head.
Torque: 20 N.m (199 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSY (See STARTER )
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET ASSY (See STARTER )
- CHECK CONNECTION OF VACUUM HOSE (See REPLACEMENT )
- ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )
- CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
