Knock Sensor (2UZ-FE): Replacement

  1. PREVENT GASOLINE FROM SPILLING OUT (SEE  FUEL SYSTEM (2UZ-FE)  ) 
  2. DRAIN ENGINE  COOLANT (2UZ-FE) 
  3. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and throttle body cover sub-assy.
  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses (for the power steering idle-up and fuel pressure regulator) and ventilation hose.
    2. Remove the air cleaner hose assy.
  5. DISCONNECT FUEL HOSE (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. DISCONNECT FUEL HOSE NO. 2 (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  7. DISCONNECT CONNECTORS FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Disconnect the throttle control connector.
    2. Disconnect the VSV connector for EVAP.
    3. Disconnect the 8 injector connectors.
    4. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
    5. Disconnect the 2 VSV connectors for the air injection system.
    6. Disconnect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
    7. Disconnect the 2 air fuel ratio sensor connectors.
  8. DISCONNECT HOSES FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.
    2. Disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve on the LH cylinder head.
    3. Disconnect the EVAP hose (from the charcoal canister) from the VSV for the EVAP.
    4. Disconnect the 2 vacuum hoses from the VSV for the air injection system.

  9. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body.

    2. Disconnect the 2 wire clamps from the wire clamp bracket on the RH delivery pipe.

    3. Remove the bolt and nut holding the engine wire protector from the intake manifold and cylinder head.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts and ground cables from the RH and LH cylinder heads.

    5. Remove the bolt and V-bank cover bracket from the intake manifold.
    6. Disconnect the engine wire from the engine hanger and wire bracket.

    7. Remove the bolt and wire bracket from the intake manifold.
    8. Remove the 6 bolts, 4 nuts, intake manifold assy and 2 gaskets.

  10. REMOVE AIR PUMP ASSY W/ BRACKET (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  11. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the 2 knock sensor connectors.
    2. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 knock sensors.

  12. INSTALL KNOCK SENSOR 
    1. Install the 2 knock sensors with the 2 nuts as shown in Fig 8 .

      20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

    2. Connect the 2 knock sensor connectors.

  13. INSTALL AIR PUMP ASSY W/ BRACKET (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  14. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD ASSY 
    1. Place 2 new gaskets on the intake manifold.

    2. Place the intake manifold on the cylinder heads.
    3. Install and uniformly tighten the 6 bolts and 4 nuts in several steps.

      18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)

    4. Install the V-bank cover bracket to the intake manifold.

      7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) 

    5. Install the wire bracket to the intake manifold with the bolt.

      7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)

    6. Connect the engine wire to the engine hanger and wire bracket.
    7. Connect the wire protector to the intake manifold and cylinder heads with the bolt and nut.
    8. Install the 2 ground cables with the 2 bolts to the RH and LH cylinder heads.

    9. Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses to the throttle body.

    10. Connect the 2 wire clamps to the wire clamp bracket on the RH delivery pipe.

  15. CONNECT HOSES FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Connect the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
    2. Connect the PCV hose to the PCV valve on the LH cylinder head.
    3. Connect the EVAP hose (from the charcoal canister) to the VSV for EVAP.
    4. Connect the 2 vacuum hoses to the VSV for the air injection system.

  16. CONNECT CONNECTORS FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Connect the throttle control connector.
    2. Connect the 2 VSV connectors for the air injection system.
    3. Connect the VSV connector for the EVAP.
    4. Connect the 8 injector connectors.
    5. Connect the ECT sensor connector.
    6. Connect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
    7. Connect the 2 air fuel ratio sensor connectors.
  17. INSTALL FUEL HOSE NO.2 (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  18. INSTALL FUEL HOSE (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  19. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY COVER SUB-ASSY 

    Torque: 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) 

  20. ADD ENGINE  COOLANT (2UZ-FE) 
  21. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (SEE  COOLING SYSTEM (1GR-FE)  ) 
  22. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS (SEE  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  )
