SFI System (1GR-FE): Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSY
- Resistance inspection.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.
Resistance: 6.9 - 7.9 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
- Movement inspection.
- Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the movement of the valve.
NOTE: Confirm the valve does not adhere.HINT
Bad returning of the valve by catching foreign objects causes subtle pressure leak to the advanced direction. DTC could be detected.
- Resistance inspection.
- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER
- Output voltage inspection.
- Apply battery voltage across terminals 1 (+B) and 2 (E2G).
- Connect the positive (+) tester prove to terminal 3 (VG), and negative (-) tester prove to terminal 2 (E2G).
- Blow air into the MAF meter, and check if the voltage fluctuates.
- Resistance inspection.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between the terminals 4 (THA) and 5 (E2).
Resistance:
- 13.6 - 18.4 kΩ at 20°C (-4°F)
- 2.21 - 2.69 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
- 0.49 - 0.67 kΩ at 60°C (140°F)
- Output voltage inspection.
- INSPECT THROTTLE W/MOTOR BODY ASSY
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.
Resistance:
THROTTLE W/MOTOR BODYTerminal No. Resistance 2 (M+) 1 (M-) 0.3-100Ω at 20°C (68°F) - INSPECT KNOCK SENSOR
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals.
Resistance: 120 - 280 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
HINT:
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the sensor.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals.
- INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
- Resistance inspection.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals.
Resistance:
- 2.32 - 2.59 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
- 0.310 - 0.326 kΩ at 80°C (176°F)
NOTE: When inspecting the water temperature sensor in water, prevent water flow into the terminals. After inspection, wipe the water off from the sensor. - Resistance inspection.
- INSPECT CIRCUIT OPENING RELAY
- Continuity inspection.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between each terminal.
Specified condition:
CIRCUIT OPENING RELAYBetween terminals Specified condition 1 - 2 Continuity 3 - 5 No continuity - Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminals 3 and 5 when the battery voltage is applied across terminals 1 and 2.
Specified condition: Continuity
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between each terminal.
- Continuity inspection.
- INSPECT EFI RELAY
- Continuity inspection.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between each terminal.
Specified condition:
EFI RELAYBetween terminals Specified condition 1 - 2 Continuity 3 - 5 No continuity - Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminals 3 and 5 when the battery voltage is applied across terminals 1 and 2.
