On-Vehicle Inspection

- INSPECT SPEEDOMETER
- Check the operation.
- Using a speedometer tester, check the speedometer indication according to the table below.

- Using a speedometer tester, check the speedometer indication according to the table below.
- Check the operation.
- INSPECT TACHOMETER
- Check the operation.
- Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.NOTE:
- Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and the insides of the diodes.
- When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to heavy shocks.
- Compare the result of the test with the standard indication.

- Check the operation.
- INSPECT FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK:
Needle position is in EMPTY
- Connect terminals 2 and 3 on the wire harness side connector and turn the ignition switch ON, then check the position of the receiver gauge needle.
OK:
Needle position is in FULL
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT FUEL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the sender gauge.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the fuel level needle indicates EMPTY and the fuel level warning light comes on.
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT (DRIVER SIDE)
- Check the operation.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the warning light blinks.
- Fasten the outer belt to the inner belt and check that the warning light goes off.
- Disconnect the connector from the front seat inner belt assy (driver side), and connect the terminal on the wire harness side connector to body ground.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the warning light blinks.
- Check the operation.
- INSPECT OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Connect the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground, then check the condition of the oil pressure warning light.
OK:
Oil pressure warning light comes on
- Inspect the circuit.
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
- Inspect the parking brake warning light.
- Disconnect the connector from the parking brake switch, and connect the terminal on the wire harness side connector to body ground.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the warning light comes on.
- Inspect the brake fluid level warning light.
- Disconnect the connector from the brake fluid level warning switch, and connect the terminals on the wire harness side connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the warning light comes on.
- Inspect the parking brake warning light.
- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Inspect the resistance.
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and the strainer.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
OK:
Float up (switch off): 10 kΩ or higher
- Use a syphon, etc. to take fluid out of the reservoir tank.
- Measure the resistance between the terminals.
OK:
Float down (switch on): Below 1 Ω
- Pour the fluid back in the reservoir tank.
- Inspect the resistance.
- INSPECT SEAT BELT WARNING BUZZER (DRIVER SIDE)
- Check the warning buzzer function.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the driver's seat belt warning sounds if the driver's seat belt is not fastened.
- Check that the buzzer stops in about 4 to 8 seconds.
- Check the warning buzzer function.
- INSPECT KEY REMINDER WARNING BUZZER
- Check the warning buzzer function.
- Turn the ignition switch off, and check that the key reminder warning sounds when the ignition key is inserted in the key cylinder and the front driver side door is opened.
- Check the warning buzzer function.
- INSPECT TRIP METER
- Check the operation.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the mode indication changes in the order of "ODO" --> "TRIP A" --> "TRIP B" --> "ODO" by pressing the trip switch.
HINT:
When turning the ignition switch to the ON position, the first mode that appears on the display is the previously indicated mode.
- Check that the indicated data in "TRIP A" and "TRIP B" is reset by pressing the trip switch for more than 0.5 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check that the mode indication changes in the order of "ODO" --> "TRIP A" --> "TRIP B" --> "ODO" by pressing the trip switch.
- Check the operation.
- INSPECT WASHER LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Inspect the circuit.
- Disconnect the connector from the washer level warning switch.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Connect the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground, then check the condition of the washer level warning light.
- Inspect the circuit.
- MAINTENANCE LIQUID RESETTING PROCEDURE
Indicator Condition:
INDICATOR CONDITION CHARTState Condition Specified State Blinking The vehicle runs 4,500 to 5,000 miles after the previous setting The indicator blinks for 12 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on (including 3 seconds for a bulb check). Continuously Illuminated The vehicle runs over 5,000 miles after the previous setting The indicator is continuously illuminated after the ignition switch is turned on. - Set the display window to ODO.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- While pressing the reset switch, turn the ignition switch to ON. Keep pressing the reset switch for at least 5 seconds to complete the reset procedure. Check that the "Maint Reqd" indicator light goes off.

- If the ignition switch is turned off during the reset procedure:

- If the reset switch is not pressed for at least 5 seconds during the reset procedure:
LCD: return to ODO
