Power Steering Gear: Installation
- INSTALL PS GEAR ASSEMBLY
- Install the PS gear assembly from the LH of the vehicle.NOTE: Do not damage the turn pressure tubes.
- Install the 2 PS gear assembly set bolts and nuts.
- Torque: 161 N.m (1,850 kgf.cm, 134 ft.lbf)
- Install the PS gear assembly from the LH of the vehicle.
- CONNECT PRESSURE FEED AND RETURN TUBES
Using SST, connect the pressure feed and return tubes.
- SST 09023-36400
- Torque: 23 N.m (230 kgf.cm, 17 ft.lbf)
HINT:
- Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 in.).
- This torque value is effective in case that SST is parallel to a torque wrench.
- CONNECT 2 CLAMP PLATES
Connect the 2 clamp plates with the bolt and nut.
Torque:
- Bolt: 7.8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in.lbf)
- Nut: 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
- CONNECT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )
- CONNECT RH AND LH TIE ROD ENDS (See AXLE HUB & BEARING )
- PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD:
HINT:
Do it with the front of the vehicle jacked up.
- CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (See SPIRAL CABLE )
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL
- align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and steering column main shaft.
- Install the steering wheel and temporarily tighten the steering wheel set nut.
- Connect the connector.
- BLEED POWER STEERING SYSTEM (See POWER STEERING FLUID )
- CHECK STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
- TORQUE STEERING WHEEL SET NUT
- Torque: 50 N.m (510 kgf.cm, 37 ft.lbf)
- INSTALL STEERING WHEEL PAD (See INSTALLATION )
- CHECK FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT (See FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT )
