Steering Sensor: Removal

  1. Place front wheels facing straight ahead.
  2. Take out all CDs. If they cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take out forcibly and send the unit for repair.
  3. While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches on sound system, turn the ignition switch to ACC. The CD indicator light blinks during the mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed. When the mode setting is completed, "SHIP" appears on the display.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF and disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  5. Apply protective tape to the steering wheel boss cover lower. Tape a screwdriver tip. Using the screwdriver, disengage the 3 claws and remove the switch and volume case. See Fig 1.
  6. Remove the 2 screws and remove the steering pad switch modulator. Disconnect the connector. See Fig 2.
  7. Using a Torx socket wrench, loosen the 2 Torx screws for the horn button assembly. Loosen the 2 screws until groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
  8. Pull the horn button assembly from the steering wheel and disconnect the air bag connector. Take care not to pull the AIRBAG wiring harness. When storing the assembly, keep the upper surface of the horn button assembly facing upward.
  9. Disconnect the connector for the steering wheel assembly. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
  10. Place match marks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly. Using Special Tools (09950-50012, 09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020 and 09954-05020), remove the steering wheel. See Fig 3.
  11. Disconnect the 4 connectors for the turn signal switch assembly.
  12. Disconnect the AIRBAG connector.
  13. Remove the 3 screws and turn signal switch assembly.
  14. Slide the column upper cover. Disconnect the 2 connectors, release the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.
  15. Remove the steering sensor.
