On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY 
    1. Check the oil deterioration, entry of water, discoloring or thinning.

      If necessary, replace it.

      Oil grade: API grade SL, Energy-Conserving or ILSAC multi-grade engine oil 

      HINT:

      SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for this engine, for good fuel economy, and good starting in cold weather.

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL 
    1. Warm up the engine.
    2. Wait for 5 minutes after the engine stopped.
    3. Check that the engine oil level is between F and L of the oil dipstick.

      If the engine oil level is low, add some engine oil up to F of the oil dipstick.

  3. CHECK OIL PRESSURE 
    1. Remove the engine under cover.
    2. Remove the oil pressure switch.
    3. Install an oil pressure gauge.
    4. Warm up the engine.
    5. Measure the oil pressure.

      If the oil pressure is not as specified, check the oil pump (See OVERHAUL ).

    6. Remove the oil pressure gauge.
    7. Reinstall the oil pressure switch.
      1. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the oil pressure switch.

        Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344, LOCTITE 242 or equivalent 

      2. Reinstall the oil pressure switch.

        Torque: 15 N.m (150 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf) 

    8. Check the engine oil leak.
    9. Reinstall the engine under cover.
