Cruise Control Main Switch Assembly: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus ES 300 and 2002 Lexus ES 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Center the spiral cable. See SPIRAL CABLE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
  2. Install steering wheel assembly. Inspect the steering wheel center point. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering wheel main shaft assembly. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut. Tighten to specified torque of 37 Ft. Lbs (50 N.m).
  3. After steering wheel installation, inspect the horn button assembly. Inspect using the following guidelines:
    • Horn Button Assembly (Vehicle Not Involved In Collision) -  Do a diagnostic system check, see DIAGNOSTICS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assembly (with air bag) installed in the vehicle. Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.
    • Horn Button Assembly (Vehicle Involved In Collision & Air Bag Is Not Deployed) -  Do a diagnostic system check, see DIAGNOSTICS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assembly (with air bag) removed from the vehicle. Check cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion. Check cuts and cracks in wire harness and chipping in connectors. Check the deformation on the steering wheel. There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel.
    • Horn Button Assembly (Vehicle Involved In Collision & Air Bag Is Deployed) -  Do a diagnostic system check, see DIAGNOSTICS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do a visual check which includes the following item with the horn button assembly (with air bag) removed from the vehicle. Check the damage on the spiral cable connector and wire harness. There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel.
  4. Inspect the SRS Warning Light. See DIAGNOSTICS in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
