INTRODUCTION
The navigation system door can now be replaced without having to replace the complete instrument cluster with multi-display unit. Use the following procedures to replace the navigation system door.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES
2002 - 2005 model year SC 430 vehicles equipped with Lexus Navigation System.

This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

PRECAUTION
NOTE:
- Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year SC 430 Repair Manual for the procedure for removing the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center with multi-display.
- Be careful not to install improper types of screws.
PREPARATION PROCEDURE
- Remove Air Conditioner Control Assembly.
- Remove Instrument Panel Safety Pad Garnish Sub-assembly.
- Remove Instrument Panel Garnish Sub-assembly No. 2.
- Remove Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Sub-assembly Center.
- Remove the 2 bolts and 2 screws.
- Disconnect the connector, then remove the multi-display (Center Display) display and instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center and clip.
COMPONENTS
REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Remove Instrument Panel Upper Bracket No. 2 (2005 model year only).
- Remove the 4 screws from the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2.
- Remove the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2.
- Remove Instrument Panel Finish Panel Upper.
- Remove the 4 screws from the instrument panel finish panel upper.
- Remove the instrument panel finish panel upper.
- Loosen Instrument Panel Finish Panel No. 1 Retainer.
- Loosen the 5 screws which secure the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 retainer.
NOTE: Do not loosen ground screw. - Remove Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Center Sub-assembly.

- Pull the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly backward to fully open the instrument cluster finish panel center.
- Separate the 2 clamps, and then carefully remove the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly.
NOTE: Increase the width of the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 and No. 2 retainers by pushing them outward by approximately 2 mm (0.079 in.), and them remove the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly. - Replace Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Center.
- Remove the 3 screws, and then remove the instrument cluster finish panel center.
- Install a new instrument cluster finish panel center on the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly.CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the 3 positioning claws in area A. See Fig 7.
- Tighten the 3 screws.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
- Install Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Center Sub-assembly.
- Install the instrument cluster finish panel center sub-assembly.
- Fit the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly into the 2 clamps.
- Pull the shaft of the instrument cluster finish lower panel sub-assembly backward.NOTE: Increase the width of the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 and No. 2 retainers by pushing them outward by approximately 2 mm (0.079 in.), and then fit the rollers into the rail grooves.
- Tighten the 5 screws on the instrument panel finish panel No. 1 retainer with the specified amount of torque.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
NOTE: Fit the rollers into the rail grooves as shown in Fig 10. - Install Instrument Panel Finish Panel Upper.
- Install the instrument panel finish panel upper.
- Tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
- Check to make sure the instrument finish panel center sub-assembly slides smoothly by moving the motor assembly forward and rearward.
NOTE: Motor assembly must be moved to the end of its travel prior to reassembly in vehicle (panel open position). - Install Instrument Panel Upper Bracket No. 2 (2005 model year only).
- Install the instrument panel upper bracket No. 2.
- Tighten the 4 screws.
Torque: 0.67 to 0.71 N.m (6.83 to 7.24 kgf.cm, 0.49 to 0.52 ft.lbf)
- Check Operation.
- After assembling the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center with multi-display, visually check the appearance to make sure that the instrument cluster finish panel center is centered.
- Check that instrument cluster finish panel center operates properly.
- Reinstallation is the Reverse Order of Removal.
- Function Test Operation of the Navigation Unit.
