Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. Check ETCS fuse of engine room No. 1 R/B. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room No. 1 R/B.

    CHECK: 

    Check the ETCS fuse resistance.

    OK: 

    1. Resistance: Below 1 Ω 

    NG: Check for short in all harness and components connected to ETCS fuse. 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  2. Check voltage between terminal BM of ECM connector and body ground. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the ECM hood (see ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ).

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between terminal BM of the ECM connector and the body ground.

    OK: 

    1. Voltage: 9 to 14 V 

    OK: Check for intermittent problems (See  PRE-CHECK  ). 

    NG: Go to next step. 

  3. Check for open or short in harness or connector between battery and ETCS fuse, ETCS fuse and ECM (See  HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ). 

    NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 

    OK: Check engine room No. 1 R/B.
