Inspection Procedure

Hand-held Tester: 

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (VSV FOR AICV) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON and the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    2. Select the item "DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD I I/ACTIVE TEST/INTAKE CTL VSV1" and operate the VSV for AICV.
    3. Check the operation of the VSV when the VSV is operated by the hand-held tester.

      Standard: 

      VSV FOR AICV

      Tester Operation Specified Condition
      VSV is ON Air from port E flows out through port F
      VSV is OFF Air from port E flows out through the air filter

    1. OK: Go to step   4 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  2. CHECK VSV (FOR AICV) (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY NO.3 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM, VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the I1 VSV for AICV connector.

      3. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      4. Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        VSV FOR AICV - ECM (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-2) - AICV (E8-33) Below 1 Ω

        Standard (Check for short): 

        VSV FOR AICV - ECM (CHECK FOR SHORT)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-2) or AICV (E8-33) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      5. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      6. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV and the EFI relay.
      1. Inspect the EFI No. 2 fuse.
        • Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the fusible link block.
        • Check for continuity in the EFI No. 2 fuse.

        Standard: Continuity 

        • Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.

      2. Disconnect the I1 VSV for AICV connector.
      3. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
      4. Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-1) - EFI relay terminal 3 of R/B Below 1 Ω
      5. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      6. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  4. INSPECT VACUUM TANK (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE 
    2. OK: REPLACE ECM (See  REPLACEMENT  ). 

OBDII scan tool (excluding Hand-held Tester): 

  1. CHECK VSV (FOR AICV) (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY NO.3 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  2. INSPECT ECM 
    1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between the specified terminals of the E7 and E8 ECM connectors.

      Voltage: 

      ECM

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      AICV (E8-33) - E1 (E7-1) 9 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. INSPECT VACUUM TANK (See  INSPECTION  ) 
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  4. CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR AICV - ECM, VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV connector and the ECM connector.
      1. Disconnect the I1 VSV for AICV connector.

      2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
      3. Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        VSV FOR AICV - ECM (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-2) - AICV (E8-33) Below 1 Ω

        Standard (Check for short): 

        VSV FOR AICV - ECM (CHECK FOR SHORT)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-2) or AICV (E8-33) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

      4. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for AICV and the EFI relay.
      1. Inspect the EFI No. 2 fuse.
        • Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the fusible link block.
        • Check for continuity in the EFI No. 2 fuse.

        Standard: Continuity 

        • Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.

      3. Disconnect the I1 VSV for AICV connector.
      4. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room R/B.
      5. Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        VSV FOR AICV - EFI RELAY (CHECK FOR OPEN)

        Tester Connection Specified Condition
        VSV for AICV (I1-1)-EFI relay terminal 3 of R/B Below 1 Ω
      6. Reconnect the VSV for AICV connector.
      7. Reinstall the EFI relay.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE ECM (See  REPLACEMENT  ).
