Cruise Control: Replacement

HINT:

The installation procedures are the removal procedures in reverse order. However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2 (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  3. REMOVE SWITCH & VOLUME CASE 
    1. Apply protective tape to the steering wheel boss cover lower as shown in the illustration.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the case.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  4. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Remove the modulator and then disconnect the connector.

  5. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  7. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. Reverse the steering wheel and remove the 3 screws.
    3. Remove the steering wheel boss cover lower and switch.

  8. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  10. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  11. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  12. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  13. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  14. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP (See  REPLACEMENT  )
