Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

Hand-held tester: 

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG. Read the values.

    Result: 

    DLC3 DIAGNOSIS RESULT

    Ignition Switch Position ON START
    STA Signal OFF ON

    OK: REPLACE ECM (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See  DTC P0705: TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (PRNDL INPUT)  ) 

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) (GO TO STEP 3 AFTER THE REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG. Read the values.

    Result: 

    DLC3 DIAGNOSIS RESULT

    Ignition Switch Position ON START
    STA Signal OFF ON

    OK: SYSTEM OK 

    NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. INSPECT IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Check for continuity between the connector terminals shown in the chart below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Switch Tester Connection Specified Condition
    LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher
    ACC 2 - 3 Below 1 Ω
    ON 2 - 3, 2 - 4, 3 - 4, 6 - 7 Below 1 Ω
    START 1 - 2, 1 - 4, 2 - 4, 6 - 7, 6 - 8, 7 - 8 Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY (GO TO STEP 5 AFTER THE REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. On the hand-held tester, select the item: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / STARTER SIG. Read the values.

    Result: 

    DLC3 DIAGNOSIS RESULT

    Ignition Switch Position ON START
    STA Signal OFF ON

    OK: SYSTEM OK 

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
