Steering Column Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the steering column assembly with the steering intermediate shaft assembly with the 4 steering column set nuts.

      Torque: 26 N*m (270 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the wire harness to the steering column assembly.
    3. Connect each of the connectors to the steering column assembly.
  2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER

    1. Install the steering column hole cover with the 4 clips.
    2. Install the heater to register duct to the heater unit.
  3. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY NO. 2

    1. Align the matchmarks on the power steering gear and steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly No. 2.
    2. Install the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly No. 2 to the steering gear box with the bolt.

      Torque: 36 N*m (370 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT:

      When replacing the gear box with a new one, be sure to align the matchmarks with the protrusion to install.

    3. Align the notch on the power steering gear box assembly and steering intermediate shaft No. 2.
    4. Install the steering intermediate shaft No. 2 to the steering gear box with the bolt.
  4. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT COVER

    1. Install the steering intermediate shaft cover with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 5 N*m (50 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) 

  5. INSTALL STEERING SLIDING YOKE 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering column and steering sliding yoke.
    2. Install the steering sliding yoke to the steering column assembly and slide it upward.
    3. Align the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft sub-assembly No. 2 and steering sliding yoke.
    4. Install the sliding yoke to the intermediate shaft sub-assembly No. 2 with the bolt A and bolt B.

      Torque: Bolt A, B 

      36 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) 

  6. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY REAR 
    1. Install the engine under cover assembly rear with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N*m (300 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

  7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO. 1 
    1. Install the engine under cover sub-assembly No. 1 with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 29 N*m (300 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) 

  8. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    1. Install the turn signal switch assembly with the 3 screws.
    2. Connect the 3 connectors to the turn signal switch assembly.
  9. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE 
    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    2. Turn the spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn.
    3. Then rotate the spiral cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the mark.

      HINT:

      The spiral cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either left or right of the center.

    4. Install the spiral cable with the 4 screws.
    5. Connect the 2 connectors to the spiral cable.
    6. Install the steering column cover upper to the steering column assembly.
  10. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER LH 
  11. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  12. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH 
  13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR FOOT REST 
  14. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH 
  15. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
    2. Install the steering set nut.

      Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) 

    3. without Steering pad switch: Connect the connector.
  16. INSTALL STEERING PAD 
    NOTE:
    • Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
    • Make sure the steering pad is installed to the specified torque.
    • If the steering pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the steering pad with a new one.
    • When installing the steering pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and they are not pinched between other parts.
    1. Connect the horn ground harness to the steering pad.
    2. Connect the 2 airbag connectors.

    4. Install the steering pad after confirming that the circumference groove of "torx" screw is caught on the screw case.
    5. Using a "torx" socket wrench ("Torx" socket wrench (T=30)), torque the 2 screws.

      Torque: 8.8 N*m (90 kgf*cm, 78 in.*lbf) 

  17. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 2 
  18. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 3 
  19. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  20. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL 
  21. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
