Front Axle Hub: Installation

  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Install the front axle hub sub-assembly and front disc brake dust cover with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 69 N*m (702 kgf*cm, 51 ft.*lbf)

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Install the front drive shaft assembly to the front axle hub sub-assembly.
    2. Install the front axle hub sub-assembly and front disc brake dust cover with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 69 N*m (702 kgf*cm, 51 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the front drive shaft boot.
  3. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD) 
    1. Using the socket wrench (30 mm), install a new front axle hub nut.

      Torque: 294 N*m (2,998 kgf*cm, 217 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT:

      Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

  4. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING FOR LOOSENESS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   ) 
  5. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB FOR RUNOUT (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   ) 
  6. INSTALL FRONT DISC (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  7. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Install the brake caliper assembly and new No. 1 caliper plates to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts. (for 4GR-FSE)

      Torque: 78 N*m (795 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not twist the front brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper.
      • Make sure that there are no foreign objects or damage to the threads of the bolts.
      • Do not overtighten the bolts because the steering knuckle is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
    2. Install the brake caliper assembly to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts. (for 2GR-FSE)

      Torque: 78 N*m (795 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not twist the front brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper.
      • Make sure that there are no foreign objects or damage to the threads of the bolts.
      • Do not overtighten the bolts because the steering knuckle is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
  8. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) 
    1. Install the brake caliper assembly and new No. 1 caliper plates to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 78 N*m (795 kgf*cm, 58 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Do not twist the front brake hose when installing the front disc brake caliper.
      • Make sure that there are no foreign objects or damage to the threads of the bolts.
      • Do not overtighten the bolts because the steering knuckle is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
  9. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD) 
    1. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the axle hub nut.

  10. CONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR (for 2WD) 
    1. Connect the speed sensor connector to the seed sensor front.

      NOTE: Do not twist the sensor wire.
  11. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD) 
    1. Install the speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: Bolt (A) 

      14 N*m (140 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) 

      Bolt (B) 

      8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
      • Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the speed sensor.
  12. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  13. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL 

    (with VDIM: See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )

    (without VDIM: See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )
