Engine Coolant: Replacement

  1. REMOVE V-BANK COVER 
  2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1 (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 
    1. Remove the 2 radiator caps from the radiator reservoir and radiator.
      CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
    2. Loosen the radiator drain plug and 2 drain cock plugs, then drain the coolant.
    3. Close the radiator drain plug.
    4. Tighten the 2 drain cock plugs.
      1. Torque: 13 Nm (130 kgf cm, 9 ft lbf)

  4. ADD ENGINE COOLANT 
    1. Slowly fill the cooling system with coolant.
      1. Capacity: 9.5 liters (10.0 US qts, 8.4 lmp. qts) 

      HINT:

      • Use of improper coolants may damage the engine cooling system.
      • Use "TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant" or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology.
      • New Toyota vehicles are filled with TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (color is pink, premixed ethylene-glycol concentration is approximately 50 % and freezing temperature is -35° C (-31° F)). When replacing coolant, TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant is recommended.
      • Observe the coolant level inside the radiator by pressing the inlet and outlet radiator hoses several times by hand. If the coolant level drops, add coolant.

      NOTE: Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.
    2. Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir until it reaches the FULL line.
    3. Install the radiator caps to the radiator and radiator reservoir.
    4. Bleed the cooling system.
      • Start the engine, and open the heater water valve.
      • Maintain the engine speed at 2,000 to 2,500 RPM and warm up the engine.
    5. Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.
    6. Add coolant to the FULL line for the radiator and reservoir.

  5. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS 
  6. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET NO.1 (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  7. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
