Inspection Procedure

  1. READ DATA LIST (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the CAN VIM. Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / STARTER SIG.
    4. Confirm the starter signal status when the ignition switch is operated.

    OK: 

    IGNITION SWITCH CONDITION TABLE

    Ignition Switch Condition ON START
    STARTER SIG OFF ON

    OK: Go to step 6 

    NG: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See  DTC P0705, P0850: TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (PRNDL INPUT), PARK/NEUTRAL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT  ) 
    1. Move the shift lever to the P or N position. If the hand-held tester indicates that the PNP SW (NSW) is ON, the PNP switch is considered to be normal.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE PNP SWITCH (See step 25 on  REPLACEMENT  ) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. READ DATA LIST (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the CAN VIM. Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / STARTER SIG.
    4. Confirm the starter signal status when the ignition switch is operated.

    OK: 

    IGNITION SWITCH CONDITION TABLE

    Ignition Switch Condition ON START
    STARTER SIG OFF ON

    OK: SYSTEM OK 

    NG: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH 
    1. Measure the resistance of the ignition switch.

    Standard: 

    IGNITION SWITCH - RESISTANCE TABLE

    Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
    4 (ST2) - 5 (AM2) LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
    4 (ST2) - 5 (AM2) START Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. READ DATA LIST (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the CAN VIM. Then connect the CAN VIM to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the hand-held tester ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / STARTER SIG.
    4. Confirm the starter signal status when the ignition switch is operated.

    OK: 

    IGNITION SWITCH OPERATION TABLE

    Ignition Switch Condition ON START
    STARTER SIG OFF ON

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: SYSTEM OK
