Power Mirror Control System - Diagnostics: Inspection

  1. INSPECT OUTER MIRROR SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Select L or R on the mirror master switch.
    2. Measure the resistance of the mirror master switch.

      Standard: 

      MIRROR MASTER SWITCH

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      8 (MSW) - 9 (E) L 100 ohms
      8 (MSW) - 9 (E) R Below 1 ohms
      8 (MSW) - 9 (E) OFF 10 k ohms or higher

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assy.

    3. Measure the resistance of the mirror control switch.

      Standard: 

      MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      7 (M+) - 9 (E) UP Approx. 100 ohms
      7 (M+) - 9 (E) RIGHT 250 ohms
      7 (M+) - 9 (E) DOWN 470 ohms
      7 (M+) - 9 (E) LEFT 800 ohms
      7 (M+) - 9 (E) OFF 10 k ohms or higher

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assy.

    4. Measure the resistance of the retract switch.

      Standard: 

      RETRACT SWITCH

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      4 - 5 Retract 10 k ohms or higher
      4 - 5 Return Below 1 ohms

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch assy.

  2. Driver side: 

    INSPECT SEAT MEMORY SWITCH 

    1. Measure the resistance of the switch.

      Standard: 

      SEAT MEMORY SWITCH (DRIVER SIDE)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 SET switch ON Below 1 ohms
      1 - 3 M1 switch ON Below 1 ohms
      1 - 4 M2 switch ON Below 1 ohms

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch.

  3. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY LH 
    1. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror.

      OK: 

      OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY LH

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 1
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10
      Turns upward (A)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 1
      Turns downward (B)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 9
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10
      Turns left (C)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 9
      Turns right (D)

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the retractable mirror.*

      HINT:

      *: w/ Retractable mirror

      NOTE:
      • Disconnect and reconnect the battery between each mirror position check.
      • The mirror position cannot be changed manually when the battery is connected. To change the mirror position manually, the battery must be disconnected first.

      OK: 

      OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY LH (W/RETRACTABLE MIRROR)

      Measurement Condition Mirror Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 3
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 11
      Retracted position Moves from retracted position to driving position
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 11
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 3
      Driving position Moves from driving position to retracted position

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    3. Inspect the mirror position sensor.
      1. Apply battery and dry cell battery voltage to the terminals as shown in MIRROR POSITION SENSOR .
      2. Measure the voltage while the mirror moves between the fully downward and fully upward positions.

        Standard: 

        MIRROR POSITION SENSOR

        Measurement Connection (Battery) Measurement Connection (Dry Cell Battery) Voltmeter Condition Mirror Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive (+) lead -- Terminal 6 Turns downward fully 2.8 to 5.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 1 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative (-) lead -> Terminal 14
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 1 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive (+) lead -> Terminal 6 Turns upward fully 0 to 1.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative (-) lead -> Terminal 14

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

      3. Measure the voltage while the mirror moves between fully turned to the left and fully turned to the right.

        Standard:

        MIRROR MOVES BETWEEN FULLY TURNED TO LEFT & RIGHT

        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 9 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive (+) lead -> Terminal 13 Turns to left fully 2.8 to 5.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative (-) lead -> Terminal 14
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive (+) lead -> Terminal 13 Turns to rightfully 0 to 1.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 9 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative (-) lead -> Terminal 14

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    4. Inspect the mirror heater.
      1. Measure the resistance between terminals 4 and 12 of the connector.

        Standard: 3.57 to 4.83 Ω at 25°C (75°F) 

      2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of mirror heater.

        OK: 

        MIRROR HEATER

        Measurement Condition Specified Condition
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 4
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 12
        Mirror becomes warn

      HINT:

      It will take a short time for the mirror to become warm.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

  4. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSY RH 
    1. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror.

      OK: 

      OPERATION OF MIRROR

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 1
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10
      Turns upward (A)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 1
      Turns downward (B)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 9
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10
      Turns left (C)
      Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10
      Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 9
      Turns right (D)

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the retractable mirror.*

      HINT:

      *: w/ Retractable mirror

      If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    3. Inspect the mirror position sensor.
      1. Apply battery and dry cell battery voltage to the terminals as shown in MIRROR POSITION SENSOR .
      2. Measure the voltage while the mirror moves between the fully downward and fully upward positions.

        Standard: 

        MIRROR POSITION SENSOR

        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive lead (+) -> Terminal 6 Turns downward fully 2.8 to 5.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 1 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative lead (-) -> Terminal 14
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 1 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive lead (+) -> Terminal 6 Turns upward fully 0 to 1.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative lead (-) -> Terminal 14

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

      3. Measure the voltage while the mirror moves between fully turned to the left and fully turned to the right.

        Standard: 

        FULLY TURNED TO LEFT AND FULLY TURNED TO RIGHT

        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 9 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive lead (+) -> Terminal 13 Turns to left fully 0 to 1.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 10 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative lead (-) -> Terminal 14
        Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 10 Battery positive (+) -> Terminal 5 Positive lead (+) -> Terminal 13 Turns to rightfully 2.8 to 5.0 V
        Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 9 Battery negative (-) -> Terminal 14 Negative lead (-) -> Terminal 14

        If the result is not as specified, replace the mirror assy.

    4. Inspect the operation of the mirror heater.
      1. Measure the resistance between terminals 4 and 12 of the connector.

        Standard: 3.57 to 4.83 Ω at 25°C (75°F) 

      2. Apply battery voltage and check the mirror heater operation.
