On-Vehicle Inspection
- INSPECT AIR-FUEL RATIO COMPENSATION SYSTEM
- Check the heated oxygen sensor output voltage (waveform) (see TERMINALS OF ECM ).
- Bank 1 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 1: Check for malfunctions in the heated oxygen sensor system (air-fuel ratio compensation system), including the circuit and all other related areas (see DTC P0130, P0150, P2195, P2196, P2197, P2198: OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT (BANK 1 SENSOR 1), OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 1), OXYGEN SENSOR SIGNAL STUCK LEAN/RICH (BANK 1 SENSOR 1), OXYGEN SENSOR SIGNAL STUCK LEAN/RICH (BANK 2 SENSOR 1) , DTC P0133, P0153: OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 1)/(BANK 2 SENSOR 1) and DTC P0134, P0154: OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT NO ACTIVITY DETECTED (BANK 1, SENSOR 1)/(BANK 2, SENSOR 1) ).
- Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: Check for malfunctions in the heated oxygen sensor system (air-fuel ratio compensation system), including the circuit and all other related areas (see DTC P0136, P0138, P0156, P0158: OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1, SENSOR 2)/(BANK 2, SENSOR 2), OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1, SENSOR 2)/(BANK 2, SENSOR 2) ).
- INSPECT FUEL CUT OFF RPM
- Increase the engine speed to at least 3,000 rpm.
- Using a sound scope, check the injector operation noise when the accelerator pedal is released.
OK: When accelerator pedal is released, injector operation noise stops momentarily and then starts again soon after.
- INSPECT EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
- Start the engine. Disconnect the vacuum hose as shown in the illustration.
- From the hand-held tester ACTIVE TEST mode, select PURGE VSV. Check that a vacuum occurs at the VSV port.
- Exit ACTIVE TEST mode and reconnect the vacuum hose.
- From the hand-held tester ECU DATA MONITOR mode, select PURGE VSV. Check operation of the purge VSV.
- Warm up the engine and drive the vehicle. Confirm that the purge VSV is turned from OFF to ON.
- INSPECT EVAP SYSTEM LINE
- Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature and stop the engine.
- Install a vacuum gauge to the EVAP service port on the purge line.
- VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS
- Check for cracks, leaks or damage.
HINT:
Removal or problems with the engine oil dipstick, filler cap, PCV hose and other components may cause the engine to run improperly.
- INSPECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
- Bank 1 sensor 1, bank 2 sensor 1: Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector.
- Measure the heater resistance of the sensor.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (HT) - 2 (+B) 20°C (68°F) 5 to 10 Ω If the result is not as specified, replace the sensor.
- Bank 1 sensor 2, bank 2 sensor 2: Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector.
- Measure the resistance of the sensor.
Standard:
TESTER CONNECTION AND SPECIFIED CONDITIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (HT) - 2 (+B) 20°C (68°F) 5 to 10 Ω If the result is not as specified, replace the sensor.
