Park/Neutral Position Switch ASSY: Replacement

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  3. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  4. REMOVE RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  5. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  7. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  8. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Move the shift lever to N.
    2. Remove the nut and disconnect the rod.

  9. DISCONNECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR 
  10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH 
    1. Remove the nut and control shaft lever with the rod.

  11. REMOVE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the lock washer.
    2. Remove the lock nut and lock washer.
    3. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch.
  12. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Install the park/neutral position switch.
    2. Install the bolt. Tighten it as much as possible by hand.
    3. Install a new lock plate and the nut.

      Torque: 6.9 N.m (70 kgf.cm, 61 in.lbf) 

    4. Temporarily install the control shaft lever.

    5. Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches.
    6. Remove the control shaft lever.

    7. Align the neutral basic line with the switch groove, and tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 12.8 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf)

    8. Using a screwdriver, bend the tabs of the lock washer.

  13. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH 
    1. Install the nut and control shaft lever with the rod.

      Torque: 15.7 N.m (160 kgf.cm, 12 ft.lbf)

  14. CONNECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR 
  15. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSY 
    1. Temporarily connect the rod to the connecting rod swivel with the nut.

  16. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT   ) 
  17. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION (See  ADJUSTMENT   ) 
  18. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY (See  ADJUSTMENT   ) 
  19. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  20. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  21. CONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  22. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER RH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  23. INSTALL RR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE REAR LOWER LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  24. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR BRACE CENTER (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  25. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  26. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
    NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  27. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
