Steering Column Assembly: Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering main shaft.
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf)

  2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the steering column assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 16 ft.*lbf) 

    2. Connect the connectors and wire harness clamps to the steering column assembly.

    3. Install the clamp to the steering column hole shield.

  3. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and the power steering link assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  4. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)

  5. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Engage the 2 claws to install the No. 1 air duct sub-assembly.

  6. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  7. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly with the clamp.
    2. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.

  8. INSTALL TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH 
    1. Engage the claw to install the tilt and telescopic switch.
    2. Connect the connector.

  9. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw to install the upper steering column cover.

    2. Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover.
      NOTE: Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
    3. Install the 2 screws.

      Torque: 2.0 N*m (20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf) 

  10. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE  (See INSTALLATION )

  11. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft assembly.
    2. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut.

      Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf)

  12. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT 
  13. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  14. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  15. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  16. INSTALL SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  17. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  18. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  19. INSTALL STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION )
  20. INSTALL NO. 3 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  21. INSTALL NO. 2 LOWER STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See INSTALLATION )
  22. INSPECT STEERING PAD  (See INSTALLATION )
  23. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE: Reset the AUTO TILT AWAY function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter (See CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS  ).
  24. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT

  25. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    NOTE: Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal (See INITIALIZATION ).
