Engine Control System - System And Circuit Testing, On-Vehicle Inspection, Removal, Inspection & Installation: ECM: Installation

  1. INSTALL ECM 
    1. Install the ECM to the ECM box.
      NOTE:
      • Install the ECM in the ECM box with the name plate facing the inside of the vehicle.
      • Make sure that there is no foreign matter on the gasket surface of the ECM box.
      • Insert the stud bolt in the vehicle rear side to the ECM first.
      • Make sure that the stud bolts are securely installed into the front and rear bolt holes.

    2. Install the 2 nuts in the order shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Be sure to first tighten the nut on the vehicle rear.

  2. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Attach the 2 claws.
    2. Connect the 2 connector holders.
    3. Connect the 6 connectors.

  3. INSTALL ECM BOX COVER 
    1. Install the cover with the 3 bolts.

      Torque: 5.5 N*m (56 kgf*cm, 49 in.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Make sure that the wire harness does not get caught between the parts.

  4. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See INSTALLATION )
  5. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL  (See INSTALLATION )
  6. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  7. PERFORM REGISTRATION 
    1. Perform registration (see PRECAUTION ).
  8. RESET MEMORY 
    1. Reset memory for 2WD (see INITIALIZATION ).
    2. Reset memory for 4WD (see INITIALIZATION ).
  9. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (see INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
