Engine Control System - System And Circuit Testing, On-Vehicle Inspection, Removal, Inspection & Installation: ECM: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE ECM BOX COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and cover.
      NOTE:
      • Remove all water on and around the cover.
      • Perform the inspection indoors to avoid rain.
      • Be sure to prevent water intrusion to the ECM (connectors and screw parts).

  5. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Using a screw driver, detach the 2 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Disconnect the 2 connector holders.
    3. Disconnect the 6 connectors.

  6. REMOVE ECM 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM.
