Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester ON.
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/All Data/Starter Signal.
    4. Confirm the starter signal status when the ignition switch is operated.

      OK 

      IGNITION SWITCH POSITION

      Ignition Switch Position STARTER SIG
      ON OFF
      Start ON

    OK: Go to step  5

    NG: Go to Next Step 

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Move the shift lever to the P or N position.
    2. Disconnect the P1 Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the PNP switch

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P 2 - 6, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      R 1 - 2 Below 1 Ω
      N 2 - 9, 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      D 2 - 7 Below 1 Ω
      2 2 - 3 Below 1 Ω
      L 2 - 8 Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (GO TO STEP   5  AFTER THE REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 118 ignition switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance between the connector terminals shown in the chart below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Switch Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      LOCK All Terminals 10 kΩ or higher
      ACC 2 - 3 Below 1 Ω
      ON 2 - 3, 2 - 4, 6 - 7 Below 1 Ω
      START 1 - 2, 2 - 4, 6 - 7, 7 - 8 Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (GO TO STEP   5  AFTER REPLACEMENT) 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester ON.
    3. On the Techstream, enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/All Data/Starter Signal.
    4. Read the values.

      OK 

      IGNITION SWITCH POSITION

      Ignition Switch Position Starter Signal
      ON OFF
      START ON

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0617) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the tester ON.
    3. Clear the DTCs.
    4. Drive the vehicle more than 25 mph (40 km/h) for 20 seconds or more.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      P0617 A
      No DTC output B

    B: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 

    A: REPLACE ECM
