Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.
- INSPECT FUSE (ETCS FUSE)
- Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Measure the resistance of the ETCS fuse.
Standard resistance:
Below 1 Ω
- Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
NG: REPLACE FUSE
OK: Go to Next Step
- READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (+BM VOLTAGE)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Data List/All Data/+BM Voltage.
Standard voltage:
9 to 14 V
OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
NG: Go to Next Step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - ETCS FUSE, ETCS FUSE - BATTERY)
- Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room R/B.
- Disconnect the E9 ECM connector.
- Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector between the ETCS fuse and ECM.
Standard resistance (Check for open)
STANDARD VOLTAGETester Connection Specified Condition Engine Room R/B (ETCS fuse terminal 2) - +BM (E9-7) Below 1 Ω Standard resistance (Check for short)
STANDARD RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition Engine Room R/B (ETCS fuse terminal 2) or +BM (E9-7) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Disconnect the battery positive terminal.
- Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector between the ETCS fuse and battery.

STANDARD RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition Engine Room R/B (ETCS fuse terminal 1) or Battery positive cable - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the ECM connector.
- Reinstall the ETCS fuse.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: REPLACE ECM
