Control Function Outline

  1. Setting

If the vehicle is being driven while the ON-OFF SW is ON (The cruise indicator is lit), the vehicle speed is above the lower settleable speed limit and then the - SET SW is operated, the vehicle speed at the moment the SW is released will be recorded as the set speed and the control activates. However, if the SW is operated at a speed above the higher settleable speed limit, then the higher settleable speed is recorded as the set speed when the control starts.

  2. Changing Method of the Set Speed

    < At vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode >

    1. How to lower the set speed

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the - SET SW will gradually and continuously decelerate the vehicle speed as long as the SW is held down. The vehicle speed when the SW is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle will be controlled at that speed.

    2. How to raise the set speed

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the + RES SW will gradually and continuously accelerate the vehicle speed as long as the SW is held down. The vehicle speed when the SW is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle will be controlled at that speed.

      * If the vehicle speed exceeds the high speed limit while the + RES SW is being held down, then the high speed limit will be stored in the memory and the vehicle speed will be maintained at the high speed limit.

      * If the + RES SW is held down during follow-up control, the speed will not be raised and the vehicle will remain in follow-up mode. However the set speed will be raised in 5mph steps for vehicles in the U.S.A. and 5km/h steps for vehicles in Canada.

< At constant speed control mode >

    1. Deceleration

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the - SET SW will gradually and continuously decelerate the vehicle speed as long as the SW is held down. The vehicle speed when the SW is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle will be controlled at that speed. If the vehicle speed exceeds the high speed limit when driving downhill while the - SET SW is being held down, then the high speed limit will be stored in the memory and the vehicle speed will be maintained at the high speed limit if the switch is released while it is still above the high speed limit.

      * If the - SET SW is pressed momentarily (Approx. 0.5 sec.), the set speed will be decelerated in 1.6 km/h (1 mph) steps every time the SW is pressed. If the SW is pressed when the set speed differs from the actual speed by 5 km/h or more, the vehicle will be controlled with the speed when the SW is released.

    2. Acceleration

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the + RES SW will gradually and continuously accelerate the vehicle speed as long as the SW is held down. The vehicle speed when the SW is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle will be controlled at that speed. If the vehicle speed exceeds the high speed limit while the + RES SW is being held down, then the high speed limit will be stored in the memory and the vehicle speed will be maintained at the high speed limit.

      * If the + RES SW is pressed momentarily (For approx. 0.5 sec.), the set speed will be accelerated in 1.6 km/h (1 mph) steps every time the SW is pressed. If the SW is pressed when the set speed differs from the actual speed by 5 km/h or more, the above operation will not change the set speed which is stored in the memory.

      * If the vehicle is being accelerated using the accelerator pedal and the - SET SW is pressed, then the set speed will be reset to the current vehicle speed then the SW is released. However if the SW is operated at or above the high speed limit, pressing the SW will have no effect.

  3. The Lower Settable Speed Limit

    * The lower settleable speed limit is the lowest speed in settleable range and is different to the low speed limit.

    * The set speed cannot be stored in the memory if the vehicle is being driven at a speed lower than the lower settleable speed limit.

    * If the cruise control is cancelled, vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode retain the set vehicle speed in the memory (resetting and resuming is possible).

  4. The Low Speed Limit

The low speed limit is the lowest speed in the controllable range and is set at 40km/h. If the vehicle speed falls below 40km/h while driving with the cruise control active, the cruise control will be automatically canceled. The vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode keeps the stored the vehicle speed in the memory but the constant speed control mode erases the stored vehicle speed for vehicles in Canada. However, for those in the U.S.A., the stored speed will not be erased in constant speed control mode.

  5. The Higher Settable Speed Limit

The higher settleable speed limit is the highest speed in the settleable range and sets the higher limit speed.

  6. The High Speed Limit

The high speed limit is the highest speed in the controllable range.

  7. Resume

    * If the cruise control is cancelled when the vehicle speed is higher than the low speed limit, pressing the + RES SW will accelerate the vehicle to the set speed when the cruise control was last cancelled.

    * Under the follow-up control, when the lane ahead clears due to the vehicle in front, or the driver changing lanes, the driver's vehicle will gradually accelerates up to the set vehicle speed. Pressing the + RES SW will increase the acceleration rate of the vehicle.

  8. Shift-Down Control

When the vehicle climbs a hill while driving with the cruise control active, the gear may be shifted down by the A/T control. When the hill climbing has been determined to have finished, based on the throttle opening information, the gear will be shifted up again after a set time. If the gear is shifted down during acceleration or resume control, the gear is shifted back up after the acceleration or resume control ends.

  9. Cancel

The cruise control will be cancelled if the following signals are received while driving with the cruise control active.

    1. Stop lamp SW ON
    2. CANCEL SW ON in the control SW
    3. ON-OFF SW OFF
    4. VSC/ABS operation
    5. D position circuit ON to OFF in the park/neutral position SW (Shift position is shifted from D, 6, 5, 4 to N, 3, 2, 1.) (A/T)
    6. Cruise control clutch SW OFF (Clutch pedal depressed) (M/T)
  10. Auto Cancel
    1. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled in the situations outlined below. Until the ON-OFF SW is turned OFF, the cruise operation indicator will blink, FAIL will be displayed on the display, the master warning lamp will illuminate and the warning buzzer will sound. The cruise control will not activate until the ON-OFF SW is turned OFF and then ON again.
      1. When the vehicle speed signal is abnormal
      2. When the electronic throttle parts are abnormal
      3. When the stop lamp SW is disconnected or has a short-circuit.
    2. The set vehicle speed is erased in the memory and the cruise control is cancelled in the following conditions. Until the ON-OFF SW is turned OFF again, the cruise operation indicator blinks and FAIL is displayed on the display after the master warning lamp illuminates as well as the warning sound. The control will not be effective unless the power SW is turned ON again.
      1. When the radar sensor is abnormal
      2. When the radar sensor beam axis is not aiming properly.
      3. When the radar cruising system is abnormal other than above A) and B) case
    3. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled in the situations outlined below. FAIL will be displayed on the display, the master warning lamp will illuminate and the warning buzzer will sound. The cruise control will not activate until the ON-OFF SW is turned OFF and then ON again or the situation clears.
      1. When the radar sensor is dirty.
      2. When the wiper is in operation
      3. In SNOW mode
      4. When normal detection is extremely unstable due to bad weather.
    4. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled in the situations outlined below. However the set vehicle speed will be retained in the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode.
      1. When the vehicle speed falls to 16 km/h or more below the set vehicle speed. (Only in the constant control mode)
    5. The cruise control will be cancelled in the situation outlined below. However, vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and constant speed control mode retain the set vehicle speed in the memory (resetting and resuming is possible).
      1. When the vehicle speed falls below the low speed limit (about 40 km/h)
  11. Mode Change Between Constant Speed Control Mode and Vehicle-to-Vehicle Distance Control Mode

Perform the following procedures in order to change the control mode.

    1. Turn ON the ON-OFF SW (The control starts under the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode automatically.)
    2. Push and hold the cruise control SW lever forward for more than one second without operating the ON-OFF SW.
