Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
- REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
- REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
- DRAIN COOLANT (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
- DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
- Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
- Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
- REMOVE NO. 1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE OUTSIDE AIR GUIDE PLATE RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER
- Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the engine assembly.
- REMOVE DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
- Hold the crankshaft pulley nut with a wrentch and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.
- SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Set the shift lever to the neutral position.
- Remove the nut, and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly.
- SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.
- REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER
- Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the engine rear mounting member from the body.
- Remove the 4 nuts and engine rear mounting member from the automatic transmission assembly.
- SEPARATE CONNECTOR
- Remove the bolt and earth wire.
- Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector, and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

HINT:
Disengage the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS
- Remove the 2 bolts and separate the wire harness clamps from the automatic transmission assembly.
- SEPARATE WATER BY-PASS HOSE
- Remove the bolt and water by-pass hose clamp.
- Separate the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler.NOTE: Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.NOTE: Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.
- Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.
- REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
- Remove the 4 bolts and rear No.1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission assembly.
- REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
- Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever RH from the park/neutral position switch assembly.
- REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER
- Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler and spacer from the automatic transmission assembly.
- Remove the 4 O-rings from the spacer.
- REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- Put matchmarks on the torque converter and transmission case.
- Remove the torque converter from the automatic transmission assembly.
- INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY (See INSPECTION )
