Windshield Glass: Removal

  1. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  2. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE FRONT UPPER FENDER PROTECTOR LH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT UPPER FENDER PROTECTOR RH 

    HINT.

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  6. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOLDING LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOLDING RH

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING CLIP  (See REMOVAL )

  27. REMOVE VISOR HOLDER  (See REMOVAL )
  28. REMOVE RAIN SENSOR  (See REMOVAL )
  29. REMOVE RAIN SENSOR TAPE 
    1. Remove the rain sensor tape
  30. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY (w/o Sliding Roof) 

    It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining assembly. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining assembly so that the windshield glass can be removed (See REMOVAL ).

  31. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY (w/ Sliding Roof) 

    It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining assembly. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining assembly so that the windshield glass can be removed (See REMOVAL )

  32. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING 
    1. Using a knife, cut off the molding as shown in the illustration
      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the vehicle body with the knife.
      • If the vehicle body is damaged, repair the damaged portion by applying an anti-rust coating after removing the windshield glass.

    2. Remove the remaining windshield outside molding from the windshield glass
      NOTE: When removing the windshield outside molding, make a partial cut, and then pull and remove it by hand.
  33. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS 
    1. Disconnect the windshield glass stoppers
      NOTE:
      • There are No. 1 and No. 2 stoppers on the windshield glass as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass when cutting off the adhesive.
      • To prevent the windshield glass from dropping when performing this operation, be sure to hold the windshield glass using suction cups.

      HINT:

      Depending on the vehicle, 1-piece or 2-piece type stoppers are used

    2. Apply protective tape to the vehicle body around the windshield glass.

      HINT.

      Apply protective tape to the vehicle body to prevent it from being scratched.

    3. Pass a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass from the interior
    4. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects
    5. Cut off the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass
      NOTE:
      • When separating the glass, take care not to damage the paint or interior and exterior ornaments.
      • To prevent the safety pad from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and safety pad.

    6. Place matchmarks on the windshield glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.

      HINT.

      Matchmarks are not needed to be placed if the glass will not be reused.

    7. Using suction cups, remove the windshield glass
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to drop the windshield glass.
      • Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the windshield glass.

  34. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS ADHESIVE DAM 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the windshield glass adhesive dam
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
      • Be sure to replace the window glass adhesive dam with a new one.

  35. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 1-piece Type) 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
      • Be sure to replace the No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  36. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type) 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 2 windshield glass stoppers.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
      • Be sure to replace the No. 2 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  37. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type) 
    1. Remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE: Be sure to replace the No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  38. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
    2. Clean the outer circumference of the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.
      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the windshield glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Even if using a new windshield glass, clean the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

  39. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. Using a knife, cut away any rough adhesive on the contact surface of the vehicle body to ensure the appropriate surface shape.
        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with a piece of cloth saturated with cleaner.

        HINT:

        Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
