Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
    5. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.
    6. Crank the engine.
    7. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      OK 

      ENGINE SWITCH ON OFF POSITION

      Tester Display Condition Standard
      Starter Signal Engine switch on (IG) OFF
      Starter Signal Engine is cranking ON

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: SYMPTOM SIMULATION AND DTC CHECK  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the park/neutral position switch when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Shift Position Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 5 (L) P Below 1 Ω
      N Below 1 Ω
      Except P and N 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (RB) - 5 (L) P 10 kΩ or higher
      R 10 kΩ or higher
      N 10 kΩ or higher
      D 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next Step 

  3. CHECK TCM (STA VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A58-15 (STA) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) and shift lever in P or N Below 2 V
      Engine switch on (IG) and shift lever not in P or N Below 1 V

    NG: Go to step  5

    OK: Go to next Step 

  4. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM (See REMOVAL  ).

    NEXT: PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION  (See REGISTRATION  )

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - STARTER RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the TCM connector
    2. Remove the STARTER relay from the engine room relay block
    3. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A58-15 (STA) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: CHECK CRANKING HOLDING FUNCTION CIRCUIT  (See CRANKING HOLDING FUNCTION CIRCUIT )
