Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the skid control ECU, perform initialization of linear solenoid valve and calibration (see INITIALIZATION  and CALIBRATION  ).

HINT:

The brake hold standby indicator light comes on when the system is malfunction.

  1. PRE-CHECK 
    1. If the brake hold standby indicator light does not illuminate even though the brake hold switch is pushed, check that the brake hold function operation conditions are met.
      1. The driver's door is closed.
      2. Driver's seat belt is fastened.
      3. The engine hood is closed.
      4. The trunk is closed.
      5. The system is normal.

        HINT:

        If a malfunction occurs in one of the following systems, the brake hold standby indicator light will blink. If this occurs, perform troubleshooting on the malfunctioning system (see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  ).

        • Electronically Controlled Brake system
        • ABS system
        • VSC system
        • Electric parking brake system
        • SFI system
  2. INSPECT CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Check if the CAN communication system DTC is output (see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed To
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    A: Go to Next Step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (BRAKE HOLD OPERATED INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Select the Active Test mode on the Techstream.

      Meter ECU: 

      METER ECU REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Indicat. Hold Brake hold Indicator light ON / OFF Observe combination meter
    4. Check that the brake hold operated indicator light turns on or off when using the Techstream.

      OK: The brake hold operated indicator light turns on or off in accordance with the Techstream. 

      HINT:

      If troubleshooting has been carried out according to the PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE, refer back to the table and proceed to the next step before replacing the part (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).

    NG: GO TO METER AND GAUGE SYSTEM  (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY TECHSTREAM (BRAKE HOLD STANDBY INDICATOR LIGHT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Select the Active Test mode on the Techstream.

      ABS/VSC/TRAC 

      ABS/VSC/TRAC REFERENCE CHART

      BH Operated Light Brake hold standby indicator light ON / OFF Observe combination meter
    4. Check that the brake hold standby indicator light turns on or off on the Techstream.

      OK: The brake hold standby indicator light turns on or off in accordance with the Techstream. 

    NG: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. READ VALUE OF TECHSTREAM (STEERING PAD SWITCH) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Select the Data List mode on the Techstream.

      Steering Pad Switch: 

      STEERING PAD SWITCH REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Display Measurement Item/ Range Normal Condition
      Brake Operated Switch Brake hold switch / ON or OFF ON: Brake hold switch ON
      OFF: Brake hold switch OFF
    4. Check that the brake hold switch turns on or off on the Techstream.

      OK: The brake hold switch is operated, and the display changes as shown above. 

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH 

    OK: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU  (See REMOVAL  )
