Steering Wheel: Removal

  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the switch and volume case.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 2 steering wheel cover.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  5. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 "TORX" screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

    2. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel assembly and support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.
      NOTE: When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
    3. Disconnect the horn connector.
    4. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

      NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.
    3. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05011)

  7. REMOVE STEERING SHAKE DAMPER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and shake damper.

  8. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH MODULATOR 
    1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the 4 screws and steering pad switch.

  9. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connector and remove the 2 screws and cruise control main switch.

  10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL HEATER CONTROLLER 
    1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the 2 screws and heater control.
