Windshield Glass: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    NOTE:
    • w/ Navigation System:

      After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  2. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT FENDER MAIN SEAL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT FENDER MAIN SEAL RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM LH  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM RH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING LH 
    1. Remove the windshield outside molding.
      1. Put protective tape around the molding
      2. Using a molding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the molding.
        NOTE:
        • When removing the windshield outside molding, be careful not to damage the roof drip side finish molding clip labeled A in the illustration.
        • If a roof drip side finish molding clip is damaged or becomes detached from the vehicle, replace it with a new one.

  11. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

  12. REMOVE NO. 4 WINDSHIELD MOLDING PAD 
    1. Remove the 4 No. 4 windshield molding pads.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the 4 pads on the other side.

  13. REMOVE NO. 3 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING CLIP 

    HINT:

    Perform the following procedures if replacing any No. 3 windshield outside molding clip (s).

    1. Put a 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit into a drill.
    2. Wind tape around the drill bit approximately 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the tip of the drill.

      HINT:

      Tape the 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit to prevent the drill bit from going too deep.

    3. Lightly press the drill against the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip (s), drill off the flanges of the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip (s), and remove the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip (s).

      CAUTION: Be careful of the drilled No. 3 windshield outside molding clips as they may become hot.
      NOTE:
      • Pressing the drill too firmly will cause the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip to turn and result in the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip not being drilled through.
      • Do not pry the No. 3 windshield outside molding clips with the drill, because this may cause damage to the installation holes of the No. 3 windshield outside molding clips or the drill bit.
    4. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the No. 3 windshield outside molding clip fragments and shavings from the drilled areas.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the clip (s) on the other side.

  14. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOLDING CLIP 

    HINT:

    Perform the following procedures if replacing any roof drip side finish molding clips.

    1. Remove the roof drip side finish molding clips.

      HINT:

      Use the same procedure to remove the clip on the other side.

  29. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING 
    1. Partially remove the roof headlining

      HINT:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.

      Refer to the following procedures (See REMOVAL )

  30. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOLDING 
    1. Using a knife, cut off the molding as shown in the illustration
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
    2. Pull the shaded area shown in the illustration by hand to remove the windshield outside molding.

      HINT

      Make a partial cut in the molding. Then pull and remove it by hand.

  31. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS

    1. Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.
    2. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.
    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.
      NOTE:
      • When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle paint or interior/exterior ornaments.
      • To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.
    4. Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.
      NOTE: Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.

    6. w/ Windshield Deicer System:

      Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.

    7. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the glass.
    8. Disconnect the stoppers.
    9. Using suction cups, remove the glass.
  32. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 stoppers.
  33. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS ADHESIVE DAM 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the dam.
  34. REMOVE FRONT INNER WINDOW MOLDING COVER LH 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the cover.
  35. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.
    2. Clean the outer circumference of the glass with non-residue solvent
      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Be careful not to damage the glass.
      • Even if using new glass, clean the glass with non-residue solvent.

  36. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER 
    1. Remove the 2 windshield glass stoppers.
  37. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration
        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible

    2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

      HINT

      Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
