Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: w/ Navigation System:
After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. - REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
- Remove the 6 bolts and under cover.
- REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
- Remove the 6 bolts and under cover.
- REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector.
- DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL (See REMOVAL )
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See REPLACEMENT )
- DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the clip and pin, and disconnect the gear shifting rod from the transmission control shaft lever RH.
- REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
- Remove the front propeller shaft (See REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
- Remove the propeller shaft (See REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE TAILPIPE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 1 MANIFOLD STAY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR (See INSTALLATION )
- REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (See INSTALLATION )
- REMOVE STARTER COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
- Remove the flywheel housing side cover.
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 bolts and remove the bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley setting bolt with a wrench.
- SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
NOTE: Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket. - REMOVE NO. 2 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the engine mounting hole cover.
- Remove the 4 bolts of the rear engine mounting insulator.
- Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.
- REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
- Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting heat insulator.
- Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine mounting insulator from the transmission.
- DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
- Tilt the transmission downward.NOTE:
- Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.
- Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
- Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors, 2 speed sensor connectors and 3 transfer control side connectors.
HINT:
Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- Disconnect the 4 connector clamps and 6 harness clamps.
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness.
- DISCONNECT NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses from the transmission oil cooler. Then separate the by-pass pipe from the automatic transmission.
NOTE: Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses. - DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE
- Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the transmission oil thermostat.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
NOTE: Do not use excess force to pry off the transmission assembly. - REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler with transmission oil thermostat.
- Separate the transmission oil cooler from the transmission oil thermostat.
- Remove the 4 O-rings.
- DISCONNECT BREATHER PLUG HOSE
- Disconnect the 2 breather plug hoses from the harness clamp bracket.
- REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
- Detach the 3 breather hose clamps from the automatic transmission breather tube.
- Disconnect the clamp of the ground cable from the transfer case lower protector.
- Remove the 7 bolts and transfer case lower protector.
- Remove the 8 bolts and transfer.
- REMOVE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
- Remove the 5 bolts and 5 brackets.
- REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- Inspect the torque converter clutch (See TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH AND DRIVE PLATE ).
