System Outline

This system aims to reduce steering force required from the driver. The power steering ECU calculates the required assist current based on vehicle speed and other vehicle information including the signal received from the power steering torque sensor. It then outputs this assist current to the power steering motor, resulting in assistance being delivered to the driver's steering force. In the event of a system failure, output current to the power steering motor will be shut off or reduced gradually until the steering becomes fully manual, alternatively the output current may be limited to certain level instead. At the same time, the P/S warning light in the combination meter will be lit up to indicate to the driver that there is an abnormality in the system.
