Section 11 (Cooling): Coolant: Replacement
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lexus SC 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
- REMOVE V-BANK COVER
- Remove the 2 nuts and cover.
- REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
- Remove the bolt and air cleaner inlet.
- DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT CAUTION: Do not remove the radiator cap while the engine and radiator are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
- Remove the radiator reservoir cap and radiator cap.
- Loosen the radiator drain cock plug and 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs. Then drain the coolant.
- ADD ENGINE COOLANT
- Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
- Tighten the 2 cylinder block drain cock plugs.
Torque: 13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf)
- Slowly fill the cooling system with coolant.
Specified capacity:
9.9 liter (10.46 qts, 8.71 lmp. qts)
HINT:
- Using improper coolants may damage the engine cooling system.
- Use "TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant" or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology.
- New Toyota vehicles are filled with TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (pink color, premixed ethylene-glycol concentration is approximately 50% and freezing temperature is -35°C (-31°F)). When replacing coolant, TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant is recommended.
- Check the coolant level by pressing the inlet and outlet radiator hoses several times with hand. If the coolant level goes down, add the coolant.NOTE: Do not substitute water for engine coolant.
- Slowly pour coolant into the radiator reservoir to the FULL line.
- Install the radiator cap and radiator reservoir cap.
- Bleed air from the cooling system.
- Start the engine and open the water heater valve.
- Maintain the engine speed at 2,000 to 2,500 rpm and warm up the engine.
- Stop the engine, and wait until the engine coolant cools down.
- Add coolant to the radiator and reservoir to the FULL line.
- CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See COOLING SYSTEM )
- INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
- Install the air cleaner inlet with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf)

- INSTALL V-BANK COVER
- Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf)
- Install the cover with the 2 nuts.
