System Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lexus SC 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. GENERAL

The vehicle's electric retractable hardtop system can be opened and closed by pressing and holding the roof control switch. This system has the following features:

    • This system consists of 3 links: the roof link for opening and closing the roof panel; the luggage link for opening and closing the luggage door front; and the package tray trim link for the package tray trim slide and tilt-up/down operation. These links are operated by electric motors.
    • The retractable hardtop starts opening slowly and finishes closing slowly. As a result, the roof operation is smoother and quieter.
    • The retractable hardtop operating time from the fully closed position to the fully open position (and vice versa) is approximately 25 seconds.
    • This system is controlled by the sliding roof control ECU. The necessary control signals from other ECUs are input through the BEAN.

  3. CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION
    1. Roof link:
      1. The roof drive motor is directly connected with the control link. When the motor rotates, the link operates and opens and closes the roof.
      2. The roof drive motor controls the guide pin through the cable. The guide pin is located between the bracket link (roof panel) and the rail link (back window frame). The guide pin fixes the 2 links in the locked condition when the roof is closed. When the roof is opened, the guide pin is released and the 2 links can move.

        • The package tray trim tilts-up and down.
        • The package tray trim panel center slides to the front and rear direction.
        • The package tray trim panel and panel No. 2 rotate.
        • The package tray trim panel center, package tray trim panel, and panel No. 2 operate during tilt-up down operation for roof opening and closing.
