Control Function Outline

  1. Setting

When driving with the ON-OFF SW ON (The power indicator is lit), if the - SET SW is pressed while the vehicle speed is above the lower settable speed limit, the cruise control will activate, using the vehicle speed at the time the switch is released as the set speed. If however the switch is pressed at a speed higher than the higher limit vehicle speed for setting, the control starts, taking the higher limit speed as set speed.

  2. Changing Method of the Set Speed

    < In vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode >

    1. How to lower the set speed

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the - SET SW will gradually and continuously decelerate the vehicle as long as the switch is held down. The vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

      * If the vehicle speed rises above the higher settable speed limit when the - SET SW is released, such as when driving downhill, the higher limit speed will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

    2. How to raise the set speed

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the + RES SW will gradually and continuously accelerate the vehicle as long as the switch is held down. The vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

      * If the vehicle speed exceeds the higher settable speed limit while the + RES SW is being held down, the vehicle is maintained at the higher settable speed limit while the switch is held down and when it is released the high speed limit will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

      * If the + RES SW is held down while the follow-up control is in operation, the vehicle speed will not be raised but instead the follow-up control will continue at the current speed. However, the set speed will be gradually raised in 1 km/h steps as long as the switch is held down.

      * If the vehicle is being accelerated by depressing the accelerator pedal and the - SET SW is pressed, the set speed will be reset to the vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released. However, if the switch is operated when the vehicle speed is above the higher settable speed limit, the vehicle is controlled with the high speed limit as the set speed.

< In constant speed control mode >

    1. Deceleration

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the - SET SW will gradually and continuously decelerate the vehicle as long as the switch is held down. The vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed. If the vehicle speed rises above the higher settable speed limit when the - SET SW is released, such as when driving downhill, the higher limit speed will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

      * If the - SET SW is operated momentarily (Approx. 0.5 sec.), the set speed is decelerated in 1.6 km/h (1 mph) steps every time the switch is pressed. Please note that if the switch is pressed when the set speed differs from vehicle speed by 5 km/h or more, the vehicle is controlled with the speed at the point at which the switch is released as the set speed.

    2. Acceleration

      * While driving with the cruise control active, pressing and holding the + RES SW will gradually and continuously accelerate the vehicle as long as the switch is held down. The vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed. If the vehicle speed exceeds the higher settable speed limit while the + RES SW is being held down, the vehicle is maintained at the higher settable speed limit while the switch is held down and when it is released the high speed limit will be stored in the memory as the set speed and the vehicle is maintained at that speed.

      * If the vehicle is being accelerated by depressing the accelerator pedal and the - SET SW is pressed, the set speed will be reset to the vehicle speed at the point at which the switch is released. However when the switch is operated above the high speed limit, the switch operation will not be effective.

  3. The Lower Settable Speed Limit

    * This is the lowest speed in the settable range and sets the low speed limit. It is however different from the low speed limit.

    * The set speed will not be stored in the memory when driving at or below the lower settable speed limit.

    * If the vehicle speed falls below the lower settable speed limit while the - SET SW is being held down, the cruise control will be automatically canceled. It does however keep the stored vehicle speed in the memory.

  4. The Low Speed Limit

This is the lower speed limit in the controllable range and is set at 40km/h. When the vehicle speed falls below 40km/h while driving with the cruise control active, the cruise control will be automatically canceled. It does however keep the stored vehicle speed in the memory.

  5. The Higher Settable Speed Limit

This is the higher speed limit in the settable range and sets the high speed limit.

  6. The High Speed Limit

This is the higher speed limit while driving with the cruise control in the constant speed control mode and sets the upper speed limit.

  7. Resume

    * If the cruise control is cancelled when the vehicle speed is higher than the low speed limit, pressing the + RES SW causes the vehicle to accelerate back to the speed at which the cruise control was last set. In constant speed control mode, if the vehicle speed drops below the low speed limit, the resume control will not work even if the vehicle speed is accelerated to above the low speed limit again.

    * Under the follow-up control, when a vehicle ahead has cleared due to the vehicle changing lanes or because the driver's own vehicle has changed lanes, the driver's vehicle will gradually accelerate back up to the set vehicle speed. Pressing and holding the + RES SW increases the acceleration rate.

  8. Cancel

The cruise control will be cancelled if any of the following signals are received while driving with the cruise control active.

    1. Stop lamp switch comes ON
    2. D position circuit in the park/neutral position SW changes from ON to OFF
    3. CANCEL SW ON of the control switch
    4. ON-OFF SW changes to OFF
    5. VSC begins to operate
  9. Auto Cancel
    1. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled under the conditions outlined below. Until the ON-OFF SW is turned ON again, the cruise operation indicator will blink and FAIL will be displayed after the master warning lamp illuminates as well as the warning buzzer sounding. The control will not activate unless the ON-OFF SW is turned ON again.
      1. If the vehicle speed signal is abnormal.
      2. If the electronic throttle parts are abnormal.
      3. If the stop lamp switch is disconnected or short-circuits.
    2. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled under the conditions outlined below. Until the CRUISE SW is turned ON again, the cruise operation indicator will blink and FAIL will be displayed after the master warning lamp illuminates as well as the warning buzzer sounding. The control will not activate unless the ON-OFF SW is turned ON again.
      1. If the radar sensor is abnormal.
      2. If the radar sensor beam axis is not aimed properly.
      3. If the radar cruising system is abnormal in a situation other than A) and B) above.
    3. Under the conditions outlined below, the cruise control will be cancelled but the set vehicle speed will be kept in the memory. FAIL will be displayed on the display after the master warning lamp illuminates as well as the warning buzzer sounding. The control will not activate unless the condition ceases or the ON-OFF SW is turned ON again.
      1. If radar sensor is dirty.
      2. If the wiper is in operation
      3. In ECT-SNOW mode
      4. If normal detection is extremely unstable due to bad weather.
    4. The set vehicle speed will be erased from the memory and the cruise control will be cancelled under the following conditions. The set vehicle speed will be retained in the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode however.
      1. If the vehicle speed falls below the low speed limit (Approx. 40 km/h).
      2. If the vehicle speed falls below the lower limit vehicle speed for setting (Approx. 45 km/h) while the - SET SW is being held down.
      3. When the vehicle speed falls below the set vehicle speed minus 16 km/h.
  10. Mode Change Between Constant Speed Control Mode and Vehicle-to-Vehicle Distance Control Mode

Operating the following procedures in the order below changes the control mode.

    1. Turn ON the ON-OFF SW (The control starts in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode automatically.)
    2. Hold the cruise control switch lever forward for more than one second without operating the ON-OFF SW.
