Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    NOTE:
    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
    • After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) 

  3. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION 
    1. Remove the engine and transmission (See REMOVAL ).
  4. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH 
    1. Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever together with the floor shift gear shifting rod.

  5. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Remove the exhaust manifold RH (See REMOVAL ).
  6. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the exhaust manifold LH (See REMOVAL ).
  7. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the starter (See REMOVAL ).
  8. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING MEMBER 
    1. Remove the 5 nuts, rear No. 3 engine mounting insulator and member.

  9. REMOVE REAR NO. 4 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and insulator.

  10. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR AND REAR NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 insulators.

  11. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and oil cooler tube.
  13. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

    1. Disconnect the transmission wire connector and park/neutral position switch connector.

      HINT:

      Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    2. Detach the connector clamp and 5 harness clamps from the automatic transmission.
  14. REMOVE AUTOMATIC W/TRANSFER TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the flywheel housing side cover.

    2. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts and remove each bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

    3. Remove the 10 bolts.
    4. Remove the automatic transmission.

  15. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the transmission case and torque converter clutch.
    2. Remove the torque converter clutch from the automatic transmission.
