Ignition Coil And Spark Plug: Removal

  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ECU  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ECU BRACKET  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE BATTERY 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.
    2. Disconnect the battery cable clamp.
    3. Remove the nut, battery clamp and No. 2 battery clamp bolt.
    4. Remove the battery insulator.
    5. Remove the battery.

  14. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and battery tray.

  15. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Remove the No. 1 relay block cover.
    2. Remove the nut and disconnect the engine wire from the No. 1 relay block.
    3. Disconnect the 2 clamps.

  16. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE (for AWD)  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE NO. 5 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and No. 5 engine cover.

  18. REMOVE NO. 6 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and No. 6 engine cover.

  19. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
    2. Remove the 8 bolts.

    3. Using a screwdriver, pry up each spark plug tube gasket at the cutouts to remove the 8 ignition coils together with the 8 spark plug tube gaskets.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      NOTE: Do not damage the cylinder head cover when removing the spark plug tube gasket.

  20. REMOVE SPARK PLUG 
    1. Using a 16 mm plug wrench, remove the 8 spark plugs.
