Back Window Glass: Removal

HINT:

When removing the molding, heat the vehicle body and molding using a heat light.

Heating temperature 

HEATING TEMPERATURE REFERENCE CHART

Vehicle Body 40 to 60°C (104 to 140°F)
Molding 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F)
NOTE: Do not heat the vehicle body and molding excessively.
  1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
    NOTE:
    • After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (see INITIALIZATION ).
  3. REMOVE REAR SEAT ASSEMBLY 
    1. for Power Seat:

      Remove the rear seat (see REMOVAL ).

    2. for Ottoman:

      Remove the rear seat (see REMOVAL ).

    3. for Fixed Seat Type:

      Remove the rear seat (see REMOVAL ).

  4. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH 
    1. for Standard Body:

      Remove the rear door scuff plate (see REMOVAL ).

    2. for Long Body:

      Remove the rear door scuff plate (see REMOVAL ).

  5. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 
    1. for Standard Body:

      Remove the rear door scuff plate (see REMOVAL ).

    2. for Long Body:

      Remove the rear door scuff plate (see REMOVAL ).

  6. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH RH  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH INNER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE ROOF SIDE GARNISH INNER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE PACKAGE TRAY TRIM PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. w/Rear Sunshade:

      Remove the package tray trim panel assembly (see REMOVAL ).

    2. w/o Rear Sunshade:

      Remove the package tray trim panel assembly (see REMOVAL ).

  11. REMOVE NO. 2 PACKAGE TRAY TRIM PANEL ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear Sunshade)  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE ROOF CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear Seat Entertainment System)  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE SPOT LIGHT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE REAR VANITY LIGHT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE COAT HOOK  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE ROOF SIDE REGISTER BEZEL LH (w/Rear Cooler)  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE ROOF SIDE REGISTER BEZEL RH (w/ Rear Cooler)  (See REMOVAL )

  19. REMOVE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY 
    1. for Standard Body:

      HINT:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the rear section of the roof headlining (see REMOVAL ) so that the back window glass can be removed in a later step.

    2. for Long Body:

      HINT:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the rear section of the roof headlining (see REMOVAL ) so that the back window glass can be removed in a later step.

  20. REMOVE AMPLIFIER ANTENNA ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOLDING CENTER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE ROOF DRIP SIDE FINISH MOLDING CENTER RH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

    1. Use the same procedures described for the RH side.
  41. REMOVE BACK WINDOW MOLDING OUTSIDE LOWER 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws, 4 fasteners and double-sided tape (3 areas). Slide the molding toward the vehicle front along the back window glass to detach the clip. Then remove the molding.
      NOTE:
      • If reusing the molding, take care not to damage the molding.
      • Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
      • Do not lift the molding or slide it toward vehicle rear when detaching the clip.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  42. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR HINGE COVER LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the double-sided tape (2 areas) and 2 clips. Then remove the hinge cover.
      NOTE:
      • If reusing the hinge cover, take care not to damage the hinge cover.
      • Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  43. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR HINGE COVER RH 
    1. Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
  44. REMOVE NO. 2 CENTER STOP LIGHT COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  45. REMOVE CENTER STOP LIGHT COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  46. REMOVE CENTER STOP LIGHT CLIP  (See REMOVAL )
  47. REMOVE CENTER STOP LIGHT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  48. REMOVE BACK WINDOW GLASS 
    NOTE: As the stopper, bracket and harness are not supplied individually, be careful not to damage them when installing the back window glass.

    1. Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.
      NOTE: When separating the back window glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle's paint or interior/exterior ornaments.

    2. From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and back window glass as shown in the illustration.
      CAUTION:
      • If the stopper is damaged, the back window glass assembly must be replaced. Be careful when performing the procedure.
      • Make sure not to deform the upper brackets.
      • Make sure not to damage the wire harness.
    3. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.

    4. Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.

      HINT:

      Matchmarks do not need to be placed if the glass is not going to be reused.

    5. Cut through the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the back window glass.
      NOTE: Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the back window glass.

    6. Using suction cups, remove the back window glass.
      NOTE: If the stopper is damaged, the back window glass assembly must be replaced. Be careful when performing the procedure.
  49. CLEAN BACK WINDOW GLASS 
    1. Clean the outer edge of the back window glass with a non-residue solvent.
      NOTE:
      • Do not touch the back window glass surface after cleaning it.
      • Be careful not to damage the glass.
      • Even if using new back window glass, clean the back window glass with a non-residue solvent.

  50. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY 
    1. Using a scraper, remove the molding and adhesive from the back window glass.
    2. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.
      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        HINT:

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

        NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

        HINT:

        Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
