Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Lexus LS 600hL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. INSPECT RADIO RECEIVER 
    1. Disconnect the R32 controller connector.
    2. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform between each terminal and body ground according to the conditions, as shown in the chart below.

      Signal waveform 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R32-13 (L6-) - Body ground Audio sound is being produced A waveform synchronized with sound is output
      R32-14 (L6+) - Body ground
      R32-15 (R6-) - Body ground
      R32-16 (R6+) - Body ground

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER  (See REMOVAL  )

  2. CHECK SATELLITE RADIO TUNER 
    1. Check if the satellite radio tuner is equipped on the vehicle

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      w/ Satellite radio tuner A
      w/o Satellite radio tuner B

    B:  Go to step  5

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - SATELLITE RADIO TUNER AND MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER) 
    1. Disconnect the L53 receiver connector
    2. Disconnect the R27 and R29 tuner connectors.
    3. Disconnect the R32 controller connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L53-2 (CDR+) - R27-2 (R+) Always Below 1 Ω
      L53-3 (CDR-) - R27-3 (R-)
      L53-4 (CDL+) - R27-4 (L+)
      L53-S (CDL-) - R27-5 (L-)
      L53-1 (CSLD) - R27-1 (SLD)
      R29-10 (FRI+) - R32-16 (R6+)
      R29-9 (FRI-) - R32-15 (R6-)
      R29-8 (FLI+) - R32-14 (L6+)
      R29-7 (FLI-) - R32-13 (L6-)
      R29-6 (SLD2) - R32-17 (SLD6)
      R27-2 (R+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R27-3 (R-) - Body ground
      R27-4 (L+) - Body ground
      R27-5 (L-) - Body ground
      R32-16 (R6+) - Body ground
      R32-15 (R6-) - Body ground
      R32-14 (L6+) - Body ground
      R32-13 (L6-) - Body ground

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK SATELLITE RADIO TUNER (OPERATION) 
    1. Replace the satellite radio tuner with a normal one and check if the same problem occurs again (see REMOVAL  )

      OK: Same problem does not occur. 

    NG: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: END (SATELLITE RADIO TUNER IS DEFECTIVE) 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER) 
    1. Disconnect the L53 receiver connector.
    2. Disconnect the R32 controller connector
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      L53-1 (CSLD) - R32-17 (SLD6) Always Below 1 Ω
      L53-2 (CDR+) - R32-16 (R6+)
      L53-3 (CDR-) - R32-1S (R6-)
      L53-4 (CDL+) - R32-14 (L6+)
      L53-5 (CDL-) - R32-13 (L6-)
      R32-13 (L6-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R32-14 (L6+) - Body ground
      R32-15 (R6-) - Body ground
      R32-16 (R6+) - Body ground

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER  (See REMOVAL  )
