Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Lexus LS 600hL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER 
    1. Disconnect the R32 controller connector.
    2. Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform between each terminal and the body ground according to the conditions, as shown in the chart below.

      Signal waveform 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R32-20 (L4-) - Body ground Audio sound is being produced A waveform synchronized with sound is output
      R32-21 (L4+) - Body ground
      R32-22 (R4-) - Body ground
      R32-23 (R4+) - Body ground

    NG: Go to Step 2 

    OK: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER  (See REMOVAL  )

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER - REAR SEAT CONSOLE BOX) 
    1. Disconnect the R32 controller connector.
    2. Disconnect the R16 box connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      R32-23 (R4+) - R16-10 (R+) Always Below 1 Ω
      R32-22 (R4-) - R16-11 (R-)
      R32-21 (L4+) - R16-12 (L+)
      R32-20 (L4-) - R16-13 (L-)
      R32-24 (SLD4) - R16-9 (SLD)
      R32-23 (R4+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      R32-22 (R4-) - Body ground
      R32-21 (L4+) - Body ground
      R32-20 (L4-) - Body ground

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT REAR SEAT CONSOLE BOX

    1. Disconnect the box connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B-1 (SLD) - E-9 (SLD) Always Below 1 Ω
      B-2 (R+) - E-10 (R+)
      B-3 (R-) - E-11 (R-)
      B-4 (L+) - E-12 (L+)
      B-5 (L-) - E-13 (L-)

    NG: REPLACE REAR SEAT CONSOLE BOX  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. REPLACE DISC PLAYER WITH NORMAL ONE AND CHECK 
    1. Replace the disc player with a normal one and check if the same problem occurs again (see REMOVAL  )

      OK: Same problem does not occur. 

    NG: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY CONTROLLER  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: END (DISC PLAYER IS DEFECTIVE)
