Cruise Control Operation
The cruise control system is a constant vehicle speed controller which makes it possible to automatically adjust the opening of the engine throttle valve without depressing the accelerator pedal, but by operating a switch instead.
- Set Operation
When the ON-OFF switch is turned on, the system begins preparing to activate the cruise control and turns on the indicator light on the combination meter.
- Set Speed Control
If the - SET switch is pressed while the vehicle is being driven and the cruise control ON-OFF switch has been turned on, the cruise control will be activated, the current speed will be recorded, and the vehicle will be maintained at that speed.
- Coast Control
If the - SET switch is pressed and held down while driving when the cruise control is active, the ECM adjusts the throttle valve to gradually and continually decelerate the vehicle.
If the - SET switch is only pressed momentarily however, the vehicle will be decelerated by approx. 1.6 km/h in a single action.
- Acceleration Control
If the + RES switch is pressed and held down while driving when the cruise control is active, the ECM adjusts the throttle valve to gradually and continually accelerate the vehicle.
If the + RES switch is only pressed momentarily however, the vehicle will be accelerated by approx. 1.6 km/h in a single action.
- Resume Control
If the vehicle speed is below the low speed limit (Approx. 40 km/h) when the cruise control is cancelled, pressing the + RES switch will reactivate the cruise control and return the vehicle to the speed which was set before the cruise control was cancelled.
- Manual Cancel Mechanism
If any one of the following signals are received while driving when the cruise control is active, the cruise control will be canceled.
* The stop light switch assembly comes on.
* The CANCEL switch is turned on.
* The ON-OFF switch is turned off.
* The "D" position circuit in the park/neutral position switch is switched from ON to OFF.
* The transmission is shifted from "D" to "N".
* The transmission is shifted from 6, 5 or 4 to 3, 2 or 1 in S mode.
- Auto Cancel Function
If any of the following conditions are detected, the cruise control will be canceled:
* Failure in the stop light switch assembly wiring.
* Abnormality in the vehicle speed signal.
* Malfunction in the electronically controlled throttle parts.
* The vehicle speed falls below than the low speed limit.
* The vehicle speed falls to 16 km/h less than the set speed.
* The VSC activates.
- Shift-Down Control
If the vehicle climbs a hill while driving when the cruise control is active, the gear may be shifted down by the A/T control. Then when the hill is judged to have finished, from throttle opening information, the gear will be shifted back up after a short time.
