System Outline
The cruise control system is a constant vehicle speed controller with which it is possible to automatically adjust the opening of the engine throttle valve without depressing the accelerator pedal, but by operating a switch on the instrument panel instead.
- Set Operation
When the ON-OFF SW is turned on, the system begins the preparations necessary for the cruise control and turns on the indicator light in the combination meter.
- Set Speed Control
When the - SET SW is pressed while the cruise control SW is turned on and the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle will be maintained at the speed at which the - SET SW is released.
- Coast Control
If the - SET SW is held down while driving with the cruise control active, the engine control module adjusts the throttle valve to gradually and continually decelerate the vehicle. Every time the - SET SW is pressed momentarily, the vehicle will be decelerated approximately 1.5 km/h.
- Accel Control
If the + RES SW is held down while driving with the cruise control active, the engine control module adjusts the throttle valve to gradually and continually accelerate the vehicle. Every time the + RES SW is pressed momentarily, the vehicle will be accelerated approximately 1.5 km/h.
- Resume Control
If the vehicle speed is above the low speed limit (Approximately 40 km/h, 25 mph) and the cruise control has been cancelled, pressing the + RES SW will accelerate the vehicle to the speed which was set before the cruise control was cancelled.
- Manual Cancel Mechanism
If any of the following signals is received while driving with the cruise control active, the cruise control will be cancelled.
* The stop light SW is turned on.
* The CANCEL SW is turned on.
* The ON-OFF SW is turned off.
* Gear is shifted from D position to a position other than D.
- Auto Cancel Function
If any of the following conditions is encountered, the cruise control is automatically cancelled.
* The stop light SW wiring is faulty or short-circuited.
* The vehicle speed signal is faulty.
* The electronically controlled throttle malfunctions.
- Overdrive Control Function
The overdrive may be disabled if the vehicle is climbing a hill while driving with the cruise control active. After the overdrive control has been cancelled, if the vehicle speed exceeds the overdrive return speed (Set speed minus 2 km/h) and it is decided that the slope is finished, the vehicle returns to the overdrive control mode again.
