Steering Column Assembly: Removal: Removal
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .
- PRECAUTION NOTE:
Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .
- PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System for HDD) NOTE:
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS
.NOTE:
Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto away/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.
HINT:
Performing the above operation disables the auto away/return function when the engine switch is turned off.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
- Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.WARNING:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS

- REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
- REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
- REMOVE STEERING PAD . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY See step 7
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Lower Side)
- Remove the 3 screws.
- Disengage the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover (lower side).
NOTE:
Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Upper Side)
- Disengage the claw.
- Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the steering column cover (upper side).
- REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH See step 10
- REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
- Using pliers, expand the clamp.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*1 Clip *2 Claw - While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
- REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
HINT:
Refer to the instructions for Removal of the driver side knee airbag assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
- REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT
- Disengage the 2 claws to remove the No. 1 air duct.
- REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
- SEPARATE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 13
- REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY
- Loosen the clamp from the steering column hole shield.
- Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly.
- Remove the 4 nuts from the steering post assembly.
- REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
