Steering Column Assembly: Removal: Removal

WARNING:

Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  2. PRECAUTION (w/ Navigation System for HDD) 
    NOTE:

    After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, make sure to wait at least 60 seconds before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  3. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the auto away/return function by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS .
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto away/return function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing this operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation disables the auto away/return function when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

  5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
  6. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  7. REMOVE STEERING PAD  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
  8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  See step  7
  9. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Lower Side) 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover (lower side).

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

  10. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Upper Side) 
    1. Disengage the claw.

    2. Disengage the 4 clips and 2 guides to separate the steering column cover (upper side).

  11. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH  See step  10
  12. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
    2. Using pliers, expand the clamp.

      *2 Claw
    3. While holding the clamp expanded, raise the claw using a screwdriver to disengage it, and then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  13. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Refer to the instructions for Removal of the driver side knee airbag assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the No. 1 air duct.

  15. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
  16. SEPARATE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 13
  17. REMOVE STEERING POST ASSEMBLY 
    1. Loosen the clamp from the steering column hole shield.

    2. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering post assembly.
    3. Remove the 4 nuts from the steering post assembly.

  18. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly.
  19. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
